Hi There

What make is the case for your instrument and would you recommend it? I'm cycling to my lessons and need a strong case so if I get knocked off, at least my guitar won't get crushed! I'm considering a Calton case but wondered if there was anything a little less pricey.

Many thanks

Viohazard is currently using an old leather case that came with an oldish handmade guitar he received, so can't say much about the brand. However, both the cases he has used have weakened around the handles - where the handle joins the plate that is riveted to the case. A handle that suddenly separates from your case as you are walking will subject your instrument to a considerable shock, so check that it is not only sturdy, but REPAIRABLE! (That is, that it has replaceable screws, not flimsy rivets).

Viohazard's Eastman violin case is no favourite of mine either - and again, it's the metal fixtures that are the problem - from the clips etc that fasten straps to the case, to the studs that supposedly act as a buffer between case and table or floor.

The actual clips that hold a case shut should ideally have a two-step action where you close the latch, and then lock it in place so that it cannot be half-closed.
