I had my second piano lesson and I am loving every minute, I can't walk pass the piano without touching the keys, I practice a couple of hours a day (plus theory), and my teacher laughed at how much I had learnt in one week, she said I should be very proud of myself biggrin.gif .
As I started out knowing nothing about music I was worried that I would find it frustrating, but my total lack of knowledge has made sure that the simplest of things is interesting to me, I have been able to approach learning without any preconceived expectations, therefore everything I learn no matter how small is an acheivement.
After only two lessons I know learning to play was a wonderful choice, mabey I'll calm down a bit as it gets harder, but at the moment I'm like a little kid with a new toy and enjoying the ride.

Glad you're having a good time, ozmum.

For me one of the great discoveries of learning music as an adult was how much easier I found it, and how much quicker I could move through things. We have better concentration, we're self-motivated, and we can stay up later! It is very satisfying to feel yourself flying forward on an instrument.

You'll probably progress very well as an adult - self criticism has worked wonders for me picking up the violin. I am glad that you are enjoying your music!

Just a word of warning..... tongue.gif
It is VERY addictive!
The more you play, the more you want to play. The more you discover, the moreyou realise there is to discover. The more you learn, the more there is to learn!

As a result, my "day" job feels like a total inconvenience and interruption in the REAL business of my life, which is my music! (But at least my day job funds my passion!)

That is exactly how I feel trying to balance my job and my music.

Me too! I'd much rather be playing Violin than working. Work is such an inconvenience.

That's how I felt before I retired - the best thing that's happened to me yet! My piano teaching isn't like work at all and it funds my other musical activities.

I know what you mean, Oz Mum (and probably everyone else who's on this forum). I never expected music to be so fulfilling.

I'm a full time Mum because my child is chronically ill. I do enjoy being a full time mum, (at times!), but there's so much beyond my control - his illnesses, behaviour (as any parent will testify to) so I was bumbling along, without any real focus and my brain power was deteriorating so I took up the guitar again (half heartedly), started lessons again but then, the momentum from that first lesson just grew and grew and now, I can't practise enough during the day, can't read enough about music, can't listen to enough music.

I have to say, I do plonk my child in front of the telly now and husband has to make do with microwave meals some days because I get carried away practising.

Humm, admittedly, housewifey skills have taken a nose dive but guitar playing has improved and I'm much happier (and husband is too as I'm happier therefore less grumpy).

I wake up and run like mad to get the housework done in as short a time possible, then I can play with my piano wub.gif.
Working from home I used to do little jobs like ironing ect. between clients, now the first thing I do is check my appointments and see where I have gaps long enough to practice piano ph34r.gif bad mummy.

I do the reverse...... practice comes first, housework if there's time.... tongue.gif

I too work from home three days a week but my work doesn't involve contact with anyone else and so requires even more will power. At first I couldnt physically play the oboe for long periods and so practice was self-limiting but now I have to remind myself that I earn money by working not playing music!
