Stockhausen - Zeitmasse

Just picked up a recording of this on Wergo with the Ensemble Recherche. I've been wanting to hear this piece since first stumbling across the score some 15 years ago now. Once I've listened a couple of times, I'll crack the score open and start to really dig in wink.gif

Mozart Horn concerto as performed by Flanders and Swann smile.gif

I once had a whim and I had to obey it
To buy a French Horn in a second-hand shop.....

Although I'm slightly envious that it only took him "hours" to master the instrument and not years..........

We marvel at the lyrics of F&S, but Donald Swann's accompaniments are subtle and deft - usual thing: something done so well that we hardly notice it. smile.gif

Yes, just having a binge on clarinet music - I have the Julian Bliss EMI recording lined up next, then Maximiliano Martin's Lutoslawski Dance Preludes and a CD of British Clarinet Concertos: Paul, Horovitz, Woolfenden, Bush, MacDonald, Cruft, Ridout on the White Line label.

(I'm preparing solutions to Further Maths papers on mapping from the z-plane to the w-plane - the music helps!) smile.gif

Didn't get around to listening to it this morning - too proficient at working through my maths, so had more music than sums to soak it up! biggrin.gif

Oh, it's just finished, so on to the Sonatina by Horovitz - fun rhythmic last movement for the pianist! smile.gif

Aaaaarrrrrrgggghhhhh!!! argh.gif

A year ago last February our Music Department had a 24hr Playathon. Muggins here was working on computer in the main music room where they had set up a Wii with Guitar Hero(?) - I think it was called. I heard this so many times.

Boy was I relieved when the performers in the Hall who had flagged, came to ask me to play instead; even though it was about quarter past three in the morning! Phew! smile.gif

I have the more recent Steven Osborne recording on Hyperion.

As a result I bought the scores; for Alkan, many of them are surprisingly manageable! smile.gif

Debussy's suite Pour le Piano played by Paul Crossley.

Now that I play the Sarabande myself, I don't care for the way in which he 'pulls it about'! dry.gif

Debussy's Images oubliees include a movement which is thought to be the precursor of the Sarabande, so much so that Crossley doesn't include both pieces. However, the third of the Images oubliees sounds very much as though Satie and Debussy are playing a duet - Satie providing the melody and Debussy the accompaniment! biggrin.gif
