There Are Worse Things I Could Do ...

What, than liisten to Grease? Can't think of many! biggrin.gif

I was listening to Vaughan Williams' Fantasia on a theme of Thomas Tallis - this was actually earlier this morning, but I logged off too quickly to mention it!

Actually, I managed to avoid Grease - still have never watched it - even though my younger sister had a record of it. Together with our Music Head of Department, I managed to avoid the school suggesting to put on the show. Then about three years ago, it was suggested and subsequently staged at school.

Again I thought, "Phew! Missed it!" for no-one had approached me to provide any piano accompaniment in the band. Then, the visiting B.Mus. classroom teacher who was involved, couldn't make the Dress Rehearsal, so finally I was approached!

I still couldn't bring myself to listen to the record or even play much through the score, so turned up and sightread all the way through the rehearsal. The Head of Drama was so pleased to have me there that he never once thought to criticise any of my wrong notes.

Nevertheless - Never Again! biggrin.gif

Nice rofl.gif we once listened to this song in music as an example of Brit pop, after it had finished my teacher goes "A wonderful example of Brit pop there, The Smiths, fronted of course by the wonderful Morrissey-miserable b****r!" he then turned around to discover the deputy head of the school standing at the door-she wasn't impressed! rofl.gif

Not right now, but earlier this afternoon - an interesting programme on Radio 4 about Schumann's FAE Sonata (which I freely admit that I just had to look up, as I'd forgotten what FAE stood for - Frei aber einsam, for those as ignorant as me - 'Free but lonely').

Right now - vuvzelas (but not as bad as they have been at other matches, I don't think. Or have I become too accustomed to them?).

We sang all the way to a choir performance (an hour and a half) and all the way back...it wouldn't have been so bad, except it was more screeching than singing, and this was the head of music's first impression of our choir! I think he was quite surprised when we weren't a disaster in performance tongue.gif

Have you played much/any Granados yourself, Panthera?

I've tackled several of the Danzas Espanolas and few other odds and ends.

I'm a big fan of Spanish piano music, although I haven't dared tackle anything from Albeniz's Iberia yet with any conviction.

Yes, along with Sevilla and Cadiz and Asturias - on a good day!

I muddled through Aragon years ago - oh the fearlessness (and naivety) of youth!

I'd like to get to grips with some Rodrigo too, but it's not that easy (is any of it?). biggrin.gif
