Naji Hakim : 'Rubaiyat', a symphonic suite in four movements for organ influenced by the Persian poet Omar Khayyam whose work gives the title to the suite. The composer, a phenomenal musician, organist and improviser is playing himself on the Cavaille-Coll Organ of the Sacre-Coeur in Paris. The music (like all of Hakim's both composed and improvised) is by turns striking, scintillating, overwhelming and much else: a forceful expression of creative and performing artistry !

That sounds great, rovikered. I really should explore Hakim's own works for organ.

Right now I'm listening to 'Sicilienne' by Louis Vierne (from his 'Pieces de Fantaisie') played by Olivier Latry, but earlier, my first listening today was to a recording of a 1950s Dave Brubeck Quartet Concert, in honour of Brubeck's 90th birthday which is today. smile.gif

A rather excellent collection of art songs by one David Brubeck. Who, I think, could become a very successful composer, if only he'd stop messing about with all this jazz nonsense..... laugh.gif

Seriously, though, he has this unexpected side to him, a legacy of his studies with Milhaud. Well worth a listen if you have a Naxos subscription biggrin.gif
