I was listening to the Schubert Impromptu in C Minor (Op90/2) on the train... several times in fact. blush.gif I really wish I could play this piece - it's amazing.

Spent some time last night loading all my new stuff onto my iPod - it's all gorgeous smile.gif

I'm singing some Schubert on Saturday, pity you can't be there to hear it sad.gif

I noticed. I'm sure it'll be great! sad.gif

I'm playing that piece at the moment actually - sadly not the Liszt transcription, but a faithful one nonetheless.

Yes it's fabulous. A lovely combination of old (Boismortier, Beethoven) and new (the McMillan, Amy - "Jeux", possibly my favourite, and others).

Whilst you are browsing there, I would also heartily recommend:
New Noise, Frozen River Flows (8 zillion stars)
Emily Pailthorpe, Though Lovers be Lost (THE Britten Temporal Variations performance and a fabulous Poulenc)
A wonderful exploration of the Britten 6 Metamorphoses by George Caird
and (if you saw Melinda Maxwell at IDRS in Birmingham and enjoyed it) the Birtwistle Orpheus Elegies.

I don't think I'll be able to stay up for Toots and the Maytels, which follows at 11.30, so I'll have to see if I can find it again tomorrow biggrin.gif

I have a nasty feeling that they aren't sad.gif . They really have no money and rely totally on kind families putting them up when they're over here - so they've been hit by new regulations (am I right in thinking that parents who put up teenagers in this sort of situation now have to be CRB checked???).

I am SO hacked off about this.

Aren't they great? I've heard them live twice.

C - I hope that's not the case - but it would not be surprising. Another triumph for the grey beaurocrats.

(edit) we went out for a meal with friends last night, and they came back for a drink and we listened to some tracks.
After they had gone home, OH went to bed, and I put Aurin on (i-tunes on my mac) and sat for about an hour doing my knitting and just enjoying the late stillness. Perfect. I really could have sat there all night quite happily.

Have just looked at the CRB website : it appears it's currently not the case, but there are changes coming in this year, and I haven't deciphered all these changes...

Ah - thanks, Baz - if you find anything out, do please let me know. I had a vague impression that the changes were coming in last June/July. I know there was certainly a problem with them being able to stay with families... sad.gif

Aww, Maggie, that just sounds like perfection!

Glad you liked what you heard, nicki and katica smile.gif . I know their conductor quite well (he was my conductor for three weeks on the Summer Seminar I went on in Hungary in 2005). He (Laszlo Duranyik) is a product of the amazing work that goes on in the small town of Nyireghaza..he was taught by the amazing Denes Szabo, who is the conductor of the truly stupendous Pro Musica Girls' Choir (rather older girls than the Aurin) and is a contemporary of Denes' son, Soma - the leader of the utterly wonderful Banchieri Singers (have I used enough superlatives here blush.gif??? ).

Labour were certainly planning changes, yes, but they all went on hold when they lost the election. The current lot are changing it in a different way, but I haven't quite worked out how...

I'm hoping that this Government dump the obsession with bureaucracy but methinks it'll take quite some time to unwind the mess that was created by the last lot if they really have the appetite for it. Bring back personal responsibility and common sense! mad.gif
