Borodine - Scherzo from Symphony No 1. Quite fun. It just happens to be on a CD that came free with the French magazine "Diapason".

Before that I was listening to Kathleen Ferrier - "What is life without thee?" on the same CD but it made me so sad I couldn't bear it.

I'm hoping to get them back over here next year...but of course it's expensive so I have to work out a way to do it...watch this space!

Copied from my post elsewhere:
On Radio 3 there is currently a concert of Stravinsky's Mass plus various bits of early music. Plus James McMillan's Intercessions for 3 Oboes. wub.gif This is my idea of intelligent programming.

That's a relief - when you said you were meant to be practising Elgar I kept trying to remember which Elgar piece we were playing on Saturday. wink.gif

Umm.. for what it's worth... I liked it! Edited to add, I have now downloaded it from iTunes. Interesting piece.

I'm listening to Turina Danzas Fantasticas - on the ATCL piano syllabus. I'd not heard them before. I like them. I need to be rather more able before I can play them!

Aw thanks blush.gif I am mostly happy with it. I think I am playing better today, and in the past I'd have been massively annoyed that I wasn't playing like today yesterday, but now I feel that if I can play suboptimally and it's still credible, I am going to be happy.

Out of curiosity, who played the recording you got off iTunes? Is it Michael Boriskin? His is the only recording I've managed to find so far for purchase that is, there are a couple other different ones on youtube but those are either recorded performances or old recordings from LP uploaded.

Very boring of me, I know but I am listening to the ABRSM new piano syllabus CD's. Actually I am quite enjoying them! I'm up to Grade 6 and was galvanised by the fact that the Thomas Arne Presto (A4) is one of the pieces I played for my own Grade 6 back somewhere around1960. Plus ca change....

I'm listening to an orchestrated version of Albeniz Iberia. Apparently Ravel wanted to do it, but a Spanish guy I've never heard of got there before him. A huge shame sad.gif
