I'm starting this thread while there appear to be some experienced organists online! I've been reading the toccata thread, and wondering if anybody could suggest some suitable repertoire for me. I often hear things I like, but don't know the names of them! I'm currently on the second year of a scholarship course, having lessons from a cathedral organist, and what I'm working on at the minute is J.S. Bach's Little Prelude and Fugue no. 3 - to give you an idea of what standard I've reached so far. At first I thought I would never be able to coordinate my feet with my hands, and consistency is still a problem, but things are starting to look up.

Thanks and regards to Him Indoors!! This should keep me busy even if I get no more replies!

Suite Modale? Yeah right, that closing Toccata is a killer, the Scherzo is nasty and the opening Koraal is banal.. wink.gif

The Vierne are a good choice, so I'll let you off !! tongue.gif

Take a look at this book: http://www.musicroom.com/se/ID_No/079200/details.html

A good value collection of Preludes and Postludes by Brahms, Stanford and Parry. Some of them are difficult, but there's a large range in the 206 pages which are very approachable. I often pull this book out if I want something suitable at the end of Evensong and I haven't had a chance to prepare anything smile.gif

Thank you, also, to mrbouffant.
