Trebor
I'm thinking, possibly, of taking this sometime in the future and wondered what people knew/thought about it. Is it a worthwhile exam to take? I understand it's meant to be a stepping-stone to the diplomas, so what kind of standard of playing is expected? Would it require Grade 8 Distinction level playing to pass, or higher or lower?

Also, with the fairly imminent merger of Trinity and Guildhall, will this exam still remain in 2007? I may be ready by Christmas, but then again, I may well not, and I don't want to get mostly ready for them to remove it.

Just musing - any thoughts or opinions welcome.

It seems the performer's certificate will be available from 1/1/2007 (between grade 8 and ACTL) in piano voice and violin. See under TrinityGuildhall Exam Structure on the Trinity website, at the bottom of the page.

I don't think that they are discontinuing them, just taking a bit longer to get around to re modelling them.

They are also planning a third (or first?) perfomance certificate at around grade 3 level so that there is one at attainment levels 1, 2 and 3.

Oh right - that's good biggrin.gif

There will only be the Performer's certificate for piano and violin in 2007 and then the other instruments will be reintroduced in 2008. I personally don't think the certificate is harder than Grade 8. Several of the clarinet pieces are grade 6 and 7 and I know many teachers that let their students work for it after Grade 5 as there is a nice selection of pieces, no scales, sightreading or aural! I agree that more stamina is needed to perform 4 rather than 3 pieces but overall I don't think it's as hard as grade 8.

Thanks, that's useful to know. I still think I'll take it, as I've never had the experience of playing a recital (albeit a mini one). And because there doesn't seem to be anything else between diplomas (no chance) and Grade 8 (done).

I think the Performance Certificate will be just right for you, Trebor - it was for me! biggrin.gif

So glad to seethat save adding Dido's Lament to Performers Certificate, they're keeping the singing syllabus the same. The choices are excellent.

Trebor, I'm sure the Performer's Certificate would be a good choice. It will prepare you for a different discipline than a general music exam, namely that of a performance exam, an assessed recital.

Go for it. At least Trinityguildhall are now in the process of publishing their new syllabuses.

Yep. Go for it, and good luck! smile.gif

This sounds like a good idea, really. biggrin.gif I think they are a fantastic idea, get's the pupil used to creating their own little performance, to be proud of, no matter what the level of playing!

I am certainly considering the performer's certificate between grade 5 and 6 (I think it is anyway). for my violin, with Trinity, but only if it's stil intact by the time I get to do it. ohmy.gif

Hi Joyjoy - I think both the certficate at 5-6 and the certificate between 8-ATCL are staying, for violin, voice and piano, according to the website. It would be great if they extended them to other instruments.
joyjoy
Yes it certainly would. Glad that they are staying put, as I think they are a good assessment. biggrin.gif
