Is this the time and place for arguements?

FredericChopin you are meant to be an adult! Please remember this is exam season.

I love hearing friends play too. As for Great performers.
John Tomlinson - the closest to a russian bass I've ever heard a non Russian, he has stage presence and he is able to perform a wide variety of repertoire.
Janet Baker - Now there's a voice to conjour with
James Bowman - Fantastic stage-presence as well as voice
Renee Fleming - a wonderful controlled soprano
Joan Sutherland - A warm yet versatile voice. The greatest thing she did was retire early enough. I can remember her at her best and not hear a whole load of poor performances on record.

If I stray into non singers the list is endless.

Tess, if you go to his website http://www.maximvengerov.net/intro/intro.html you can subscribe to a mailing list to get tour date info.

Ermmm...this is not the best site for Maxim's tour information. I think last time I looked it was blank. And I don't think the subscription thingy works either.

Next time he is in London is the Proms on Aug 13th, then Nov 28th at the Barbican for a recital, and then next May Barbican again.

I haven't heard many pianists, but I do like Peter Donohoe. And Daniel Barenboim, of course. smile.gif

It doesn't have tour info - just the subscription.

Perhaps you could link to a better site?

Dexter Gordon for his fabulous, laid back, fat, tenor sax sound

Now I really want to hear him play to know what his sound is like smile.gif

My favourite Dexter Gordon recording is Go, available from Amazon for the bargain price of £5.97!

I'll add it to my wishlist biggrin.gif

Miles Davis, because he was continually moving jazz forward

Ahh, whilst I agree he was an innovator, we're studying "Four" for my AS Set Works and I can't stand it ph34r.gif

Please tread carefully with FC, he's feeling a little under attack at the moment. I'm sure he didn't mean to offend Nat, but he's come off feeling rather insulted.

Nat, in the heat of the moment we all say things that we regret later. Send him a PM now you're calmer and patch things up.

I really hate it when to forumites who normally have such a lot of good to offer come to blows like this. This has been a storm in a tea-cup its time to call time on this dispute and talk musicians!
