I adore Mozart, he is my favourite out of the classics, although not including contemporary composers but he still tops them

I have many favourite composers, but I have different favourites for different things.
I love to listen to Beethoven, but have only ever played the Moonlight Sonata and first or second flute (or both, perhaps) of the fifth symphony. I also love to listen to Mendelsohn's orchestral stuff, although I've only ever played the Hebrides overture. On the piano, I love to play Haydn's sonatas and anything by Rachmaninov, although I barely listen to Haydn and especially not his orchestral stuff, which just doesn't move me. On the flute my favourites are Bach and Handel, who I just never listen to. Strange, huh?

My fave on the flute is Mozart's Harp and flute concerto.I should get my music teacher to play the harp bit! she would since its one of her fave pieces but we are having trouble getting the music.

bach is much too depressing- he's so mathematical and perfect harmonically but I just find the music a little inhuman- I prefer Mozart.
my dad likes bach though

yes bach is very depressing.Debussy is also quite good, i studied Prelude to the afternoon of the faun for AS this year but Wagner was very 'full-on' and Haydn was so regimented and stuff, but mozart, jeez, he rocks!

I like to play Bach better because it's kind of more predictable and I can get into the chord progressions and stuff but I can see how Bach could be boring to listen to somtimes...
BUT i prefer to listento Mozart because it's really pretty.

Yeah.I don't play bach and haven't played any mozart on piano yet but it sounds very logical.Classical is logical, with a lot of perfect cadencing but romantic must be hard, like Wagner, with unpredictability

i love bach when i'm really really angry or upset. His music really calms me down for some reason, and the brandenburg concerti are amazing!

i hate the brandenburg concerto though the brandenburg gate is quite cool and the hotel where michael jackson dangled the baby out the window is just behind it lol, i've been there!
however, mozart can be so mellow to listen to, but i can't listen to eine kleine nachtmusik if i'm wound up or tired

Mozart just sounds too Antiques roadshow for my tastes:) Bach has a dark wee mind.

Beethoven is sort of in between Bach and Mozart style wise in my opinion.

Antonio Vivaldi all the way.... amazing life story, and some of of his concertos for 2 violins are so passionate and fiery which i love! A Vivaldi Concerto in D Minor for 2 violins was probably one of the first 'serious' pieces that i learnt... about 2 years ago, and i still love it!!!
I have a cd 'The Vivaldi Concerto' and they're really good!!!
To be honest.... Bach and Mozart... they're neither really very exciting i personally think.
I know this is supposed to be non-contempory, but i really like Kodaly as well. And Berlioz is ace!!! Fab life story.... hopeless romantic.... bless 'im.

Old thread, but oh well.
Tchaikovsky all the way for me. Or Beethoven. To be honest I find Mozart a little overrated, and hate Bach after having to do Bach Chorales for A level music.

You can't go wrong with a good bit of Mozart (well, you can, but I wasn't going to put that!).
