I'm not sure whether I should look at an electric or an electro acoustic, and wondered if anyone could give me a sense of the pros and cons of each?
Well the obvious thing would be if you buy an electro acoustic, your going to need an half decent practice amp. I know you've probably heard it before but you get what you pay for in terms of both guitars and amp's. It doesn't help the budget if you buy something now only to realise it isn't what you wanted in 3 months time

I want something that will sound ok, it doesn't need to be fabulous, as I don't anticipate playing for anyone other than me, really. So recommendations for brands would be really helpful.
And here in lies an age old problem...... We all think that we will never do anything other than be back bedroom picker. But before you know it, you get to play along with a friend who knows a drummer/bass player/singer/ and on it goes from there. Before you realise it it's all starting to get a bit more serious and you realise the limitations of your equipment and you wished you had spent that extra couple of quid and gone for the Gibson..
Don't do yourself down and buy the best you can afford whilst maintaining matrimonial harmony. I don't know your budget but I have one of
these. They are solid wood with no laminates at all and it projects itself really well on it's own and it wont break the bank. You can check out any model you fancy at
Harmony Central. Get down to your local shop and plug some in and play em. You will never know unless you have a bash and find out what suits you (which will invariably be the £1300 Gibson)
