Hiya peeps,
I am studying for my grade 6 flute at the moment and I have learnt one piece by John Rutter and it is lovely!
Has anyone here done grade 6 and let me know what pieces they played?
I am also really concerned about playing my scales because there are so many of them and I am really bad at remembering them, and I have to do melodic and harmonic minors?
Anyone got any tips please?
Thanks
Annetta

Is that the Prelude? I have to say, for me, John Rutter's Suite Antique is lovely for a while, but then I began to hate it.
I did G6 with Guildhall (sorry I am not really helping you here) and I did:
Study from Flute Player's Companion
Mozart - 2nd movement of the D major concerto
City Life 3

My daughter did
J S Bach - Siciliano List A
Gaubert - Madrigal List B
The Gaubert is a gorgeous piece.

Hi Annetta. There are quite a few threads on pieces for grade 6 flute. Try a search and see what you find. I did Telemann, Gaubert, and Study 60 (Presto). Gaubert is indeed lovely. Telemann was for recorder so not as natural on the flute, but still lovely to play. I got 127 which is OK for my fourth instrument and self taught.
As for scales, it really is practise until you know them all ways round. Harmonic minor is the same up and down, melodic is not. A good trick is to practise in matching pairs. This means you play C major then A minor, harmonic and melodic. Similarly with G major and E minor, etc. This helps make the relationship with the relative major key. Let us know how you get on.

I played:
1. Minuet, from l'Arlisienne suite - Bizet
2. Sonata in E minor mvt 2 - CPE Bach
3. Purple Bamboo Melody
But this was for Trinity!

I think that the prelude is the kind of piece it would be really easy to get sick of if you have to practice it a lot. I like it, but when I tried to practice it to get it up to performance standard, I rapidly went off it!

I find I am OK as long as I just practice little bits and strictly for fun

that isn't why, its cos i cant get the high A's and so i cant get the high Bb easily either, and i certainly cant play it quietly or tranquilly!

I can see how that would pretty much ruin the effect of the piece
