It's out of 100:

90 Gets you a distinction;
80 A merit;
66 A pass.

Hope it went well for all of you.
sbhoa
You all got the same paper... paper B is the one for this exam session.
'A' is the spring one and 'C' is the winter one.

It means 'majestically'. Im doing grade 5 theory next term. Yes, you do get pass merit or distinction.
Sukimonster
from what i remember the cadences were 2-5-1 and 4-1. Did anyone actually bother learning all the words from the back of the book?smile.gif Thats the bit that will bring me down a bit the rest was very well practiced.
missfabflute
whats the difference between paper A. B and C? blink.gif

Nicola
there are different papers for the 3 exam sessions.
charlottethemuppet
I did it (G5 Theory) today as well... it's such a relief to have finally DONE IT!!! Just hoping that i've passed!!! It was harder than i expected, as I've done lots of past papers that have seemed WAAAAY easier. Oh well, only 6 weeks to wait and then i'll know........

By the way, what do you call a interval between an E# and a G? That was the only one that really foxed me.

And also, did any non-violinists know which the up bow note in that violin piece was? I am a violinist, so im lucky and it was easy... but did everyone else know? I just wandered.....

Well done tutti,
Charlotte xxx laugh.gif
lillylemon
sad.gif i'm not a violinist please tell me what the answer was, I put that it was a small square bracket over one of the notes and the interval was a minor 3rd ( dry.gif i think)
Did anyone else find the transposition difficult, the 1 line took me about 15 mins!!
Chopininoff
I think it was an E# to G# (because the G# was in the key signature). I said the interval was a minor 3rd. For the intervals (I forget which order) I wrote major 7th, compound minor 2nd, minor 3rd, augmented 4th
and diminished octave.

The violin upbow was the very first note in bar 1. It was the note with a V shape on top of it.

hgirl, since I heard you are from Belfast, did you do your exam at the south dining hall at Queen's? If so, you must have been one of the two girls doing the exam at the top of the hall?
charlottethemuppet
Sorry, it was the very first note with a small V over it. I also put Minor 3rd but im still panicking!!! o well nothing i can do now!!!

yay i got them right and i got the same interals as Chopininoff and i got the violin up bow!! there is still hope!! i messed up the composign melody though and i think transposition was a bit of a disaster!!

With intervals r u actually supposed 2 look at the key sig? I thought u went by the scale of what the bottom note was and if the note above it was in the scale then it was major or perfect but if it had been lowered 1/2 a semitone it was minor or diminished and if it was raised 1/2 a semitone it was augmented. Please tell me i'm right or i've just got the intervals all wrong sad.gif
pianoforte2
Also, for the transposition, did anyone else transpose it down 2 E flat major? First I did it 2 F major then changed my mind and thought E flat major was more logical.
saxlover
yes you need to take the key sig into account. i dont at first to try to figure it out then to find out whether its augmented or whatever i look at the key sig

for example if u had a C to E thats a major third but if you had an Eb flat in the key sig it makes the interval a minor third coz the E has been lowered a semitone

does that make sense?!
saxlover
yes Bb major transposed down a perfect 5th is Eb major, so you were right
pianoforte2
Yea i know what u meen, but whenever i did what u said, my teacher always said it was wrong. But whenever I didn't look at the key sig I got it right. Oh well, i just hope I pass.
saxlover
well what intervals did you put, did you put the same as Chopininoff wrote because i got them too and im sure they are right! i hope!
pianoforte2
Can't remeber now, i put a minor something though.
saxlover
well im sure youve done fine. can you remember what you put for the time signature question
Lionfluf
I did grade 5 too! Think it went okay apart from the transposition. i ummed and aahed for ages over the key sig.!
saxlover
i think the new key sig was Eb major but i kept thinking it was wrong! and then there were quite a few accidentals to figure out!!
BabyBanana
Hey i just joined..

I did a grade 5 thoery paper yeserday u no the paper B wat was the second question answer.. the squggly line for bar 3 that rly had me stumped. I wrote for the others to join in is that rite..

I got the intervals rite smile.gif im very proud as that is one of ma worst things or subject..
saxlover
squiggly line isnt that spreading the notes of the chord? blink.gif
Sukimonster
Squiggly line is the chord to be played arpeggiated the key signature was Eb major.
