Hi everyone, I'm new here, I just joined today.
I am currently working on Bruch's Concerto in G Minor (just the first two movements, I cant attempt the 3rd haha). It's the first major piece I've played in a while.
I'm 21 years old and my high school teacher always used to hold me back and never challenged me with anything. I got really frustrated that I never got to work on some of the harder pieces that I really wanted to learn and by the time I got to college, I didnt play at all my freshman year.
I started playing in orchestra at school last spring (of my sophmore year). I am just starting to get more serious with the violin and I really wish I never stopped! I now have a wonderful, encouraging teacher and im just trying to be the best I can be!
Any suggestions on what I should tackle after the Bruch???

Welcome to the forums. Have you tried any of the solo sonatas and partitas of J S Bach yet?

are there any of them in particular that you would recommend just to get my feet wet. I haven't played any Bach since about 2 years ago and it was Concerto in E major i believe

The first movement of the 2nd partita BWV1004 (the Allemande) is a good start point...DON'T try the last movement if they scare you

Partita in E is the easiest whole partita/sonata, but the Preludio is a bit tricky! I think the first 4 movements of the Partita in Dm are OK, and I'm below your level. Many people go for Mendelssohn after Bruch, but maybe you could have a look over the DipABRSM and LRSM lists and see if there's anything which looks interesting on there. There's always the Mozart Concerti too, which are musically challenging for anyone, no matter what their technical level is. Or if you want to play something very different to the Bruch, the Four Seasons would be no harder (Winter is probably hardest, but 3rd mov of Summer isn't easy) but introduce a lot of different things, and of course everyone knows them.

Try and play Bach violin Concerto. It's a very nice piece of music especially the first movt. I'm a viola player but I also play violin when I want to play the tune.
