I think we're expected to say it comes from God.

Please correct me if I'm wrong. wink.gif

Music is a need!

It comes from Inner Worlds using us composers to give it to the material world. We write it down so that performers have something to perform and the AB can make a few readies by examining on it. If we're lazy, it just stays as improvisation.

As you well know, anyone can be a composer if they want to.

Absolutely. When you buy your piano it comes full to the brim with good music. The secret is knowing how to get it out.

I would say it is the pianist who is full of good music, and the piano is just the mental to physical link.

I was actually making a serious point ! mad.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

The first rhythm we ever come across is our mother's heartbeat in the womb- and our heartbeat is a rhythm we have with us all our lives.

Of course, music is merely a human and animal psychological perception of the world, a sort of psychological convention rather than a laid down TYPE of sound...

I'm sorry, I'm not explaining this very well...

But anyhoo, unless it was God's design of the brain that does it, it doesn't come from him in the slightest.

I'm not sure that it's any more reasonable for you to say authoritatively "It doesn't come from God in the slightest" than for Andy to say it does come from God. How can we prove it either way? We can't... just an observation, at least Andy is honest enough to give his view as opinion, not fact wink.gif

ianfiat: good point, actually - I seem to remember many times on here people using the heartbeat to explain pulse to their students.

I have no idea myself - music just is but I would have enjoyed reading other people's opinions if they had any! 10/10 for trying pianist1210

Did God get distinctions from all his practical/theory exams? did he do ABRSM or Trinity? which instruments does he play (all presumably)?

True. Many people say music is the universal language, I certainly agree. (In fact, I think it was last year or so...people announce that they can communicate with Aliens with musical sounds....don't know if you believe it or not.... tongue.gif )
Frankie82
I just cannot describe my need to make music, maybe its a genetic thing or maybe it just comes upon us as individuals.............I just have an urge to go and play about with the piano if there's one in a pub/hotel etc, somehow music just touches you in a way that nothing else does (maybe apart from your husband/partner etc heheh)

Aha thanks....that's an Excellence mark. biggrin.gif

I've just being doing some Biology revision...and in my text book it states:

"The earliest flute is made out of bird-bone, 25000years old in Neanderthals. THe bone is dated between 43000 and 82000 years ago....suggests that Neanderthals may have made music." [BioZone, year13, 2006]

I personally believe that man did discovered music, but not made or invented music, as music exists long before man realised it. And I still insist that, God made music. smile.gif
