grade 7 but i am going to fail

How do you know?

I wouldn't enter either myself or somebody else if I thought there was any real doubt about a reasonable pass.
My theory teacher wouldn't enter anyone unless they were scoring 80 or above fairyl consistently in past papers and I tend to follow that example with my own students.
That way there is a safe margine for exam nerves or a particularly difficult paper.
It's a bit too expensive to enter without being fairly sure about passing I think.

I'm taking my grade 5 that day. I'm pretty confident that I'll pass, probably won't get a distinction though.

Grade 5 so I can do my Grade 8 Horn in the Autumn session. Aiming for distinction and trying to come up with a mnemonic or acronym that will make me remember to check everything (stems, accidentals etc). If I come up with one I'll post it.

Hope you're doing ok, I figure you've been in there half an hour by now - good luck for the rest of it! I'd make a joke about posting the answers for us but I'd probably get denied entry to the exam room or something!

Yup, Grade 5 tomorrow, for grade 6 piano and possibly 7 or 8 flute in the next two years.

Intervals are determined to kill me and if it's a crazy key for the transposition I DIE. Oh, and the scales with the key signatures - I really should know them considering I should be able to play them all... actually I don't even know where Hunter Halls are, other than at Glasgow Uni. Hmmmmm........

Aaargh 11 hours! Why am I not in bed!

Good luck everyone!
sarah-flute
Good luck, folks!

I've got pupils doing them today. However, I've often thought it would be fun to do the first five grades in a two hour period. That way you could get five distinctions in one day! biggrin.gif

I've no spare cash to do it and I presume the Board wouldn't encourage that type of thing anyway.

Good luck if you are doing it this morning.

Good luck to all on the forums taking theory exams today (especially to MrB, who sounds as though he'll need it). wink.gif

Well, they're in there now. Am hoping someone will post what the Grade 5 questions were as I've got 2 people doing it, and by the time I speak to them they've forgotten all about it - would love to know. I know one girl who came to me for a couple of lessons before the exam who has a reader for the exam as she's dyslexic. The reader is going to be her trombone teacher, so I'm hoping that after the exam she will give the pupil some idea of how she's done. Poor kid's failed it once and needs it to pursue her chosen career.

Wonder if mrbouffant is smiling and happy, or sweating and swearing and wishing he'd done some work!!!!! I'm sure he'll let us know. smile.gif smile.gif smile.gif smile.gif

What ever do you mean?!! tongue.gif

what a difference sitting the exam at my local centre. I did gr6 at Westminster and there were at least two exam halls on the go with probably >150 candidates..

I rolled up to the one here to find about 15 candidates in all, spread out in an enormous hall but my bad luck meant I had the sniffing child from h3ll behind me. Aaaagh! I was the oldest there by over 20 years and indeed the invigilator seemed to know me from somewhere... "I thought it was you" he said "I saw the name on the list.." LOL

I skimmed over the paper and went straight to Q5. I found myself working backwards through the paper which was kinda weird but each to their own, right?!

I enjoyed it in a strange kind of way. No guarantee of a pass of course, but apart from Q2 which was not in the form I prefer, it seemed OK... Oh well, time to kick back for 6w or so now smile.gif

Hope everyone else had a fun morning!!!!

That's what I thought - to be back home and posting on here, you must have got through the paper very quickly. When I did Grade 6 I was struggling to get it all done in the 3 hours.

just got back from my grade 5 exam, it was ok, but a few questions were annoying, like i forgot how to write 9/8 in simple time, but i think i got it in the end, and i didnt know what the word risoluto meant.
Also, for the transposing question i think i forgot to write in the "3" sign for a triplet, will i get marked down for that or, is it the correct interval transposed that counts?
Trebor
Meh, Grade 6 was alright. I left after a couple of hours leaving the grand total of 1 Grade 7er in a huge hall on her own. It could've been worse; at least there was no Italian.

Isn't it some sort of Italian dish made with rice biggrin.gif

Mmmm Prawn Risoluto with a a side salad, garlic bread and a bottle of something white
katyjay
I'll have one of those, please Jane. Especially the wine.

Actually it wasn't too bad. Finished & checked in 2 1/4 hours and then fled.
