I don't know if any one else caught the BBC1 Jazz production tonight at 10-30pm of John Coltrane but i was dissapointed by the religous iconography associated with the artist. Coltrane was one of the finest saxophonists who ever roamed the planet but after 1964 he did completely loose the plot IMHO, moving into 'Free Jazz' or 'Avantguarde'. My favourite Album is 'Crescent' but my most favourite song is 'Equinox' as featured in the grade 1 jazz trombone book.

Yes - I saw it too.
It was one of the series by Alan Yentob.
I wasn't too sure what John Coltrane would have made of it!

But what a player.
