What Is the most exciting moment that you have had because of your music (becuase you play an instrument) i.e meeting a famous musician, playing in a big concert... etc..
But it has to be something that you probably wouldn't have experienced if you didn't play an instrument...
Understand ???

Being interested in music has led to my meeting many musicians whose work I admire - because I met my husband through going to concerts, and he tunes for them. I don't suppose that counts though, does it?

Awwwwwwwww! Yes it certainly does, it's a lot more interesting/important than what most of us do through music.
I don't think anything like playing at the RAH or meeting famous musicians really means much to me (although I wouldn't say no if someone offers!

). Sometimes when I'm just playing away to myself, I amaze myself just for a split second by producing a beautiful tone. Other times, usually when I'm in the right mood for the praticular piece and thinking about the right thing, I'll give a performance which might be average to anyone else, but I feel like it means something. To me, that's everything. That's completely worth giving up a social life and good GCSE grades for. Just that odd 5 seconds here and there.
And the feeling it gives me is something I don't get ever, unless I'm playing my violin.

walking out to play the firebird and pomp and circumstance, in the last night of the school proms, at the Royal Albert Hall. Obviously the concert itself was a massive occasion, but having the whole packed hall cheering and clapping, all little kids cheering, whilst you walked on stage was something special!! The Start of the Katchei movement still sends shivers up my spine, whilst the whole hall cheering, balloons, poppers and fireworks being set of at the end of "Land Of Hope and Glory" was also absolutely amazing.
Another Majic Moment was Playing Pines of Rome - the last movement of that is special....the only word to describe it. Listening to it doesnt to it justice - you have to be surronded by the music and the sound in order for it to really tingle you

I played "Silver Tears Of The Moon" for Grade 5 violin exam. Can't remember. I remember when I was practicing I got a REALLY nice tone and it was just sort of like "Wow...i never knew i could get THAT sort of sound out of my violin!! Let's do that again!" Unfourtunatley I didn't play it as well during the exam...not even close. Pity...
Good News: I got a distinction from it(135-best score so far!) And apparently the examiner was really harsh

Well...
as a result of learning the clarinet, I became interested in classical music;
as a result of being interested in classical music, I started going to the Proms;
as a result of going to the Proms (i) I met Husband; and (ii) I did the presentation to Leonard Slatkin at the 2002 Last Night (yes, that was me on stage in a pink frock and long white gloves

).
Both magical in very different ways.

Throug playing my violin and playing in a folk band I've seen loads of people really enjoying our music, dancing to it or just listening, of every age. I think these has to be the most majic moments for me.
And performing in the RAH didn't really go amiss... lol... but that was singing rather than through playing an instrument.

Playing in a big concert with John Surman and his amazing jazz musicians earlier this year. We all walked in from different parts of the auditorium, with this pedal note playing throughout with us imporvising over the top- I was one of the last on stage so got to listen to everyone else from a really good place whilst waiting.
But I was very worried about falling over walking down the stairs whilst playing the flute and concentrating on the playing as well.
I aslo really enjoy doing piano solos at concerts where people only know me as a cellist/flautist/percussionist/singer so when they hear me play they realise that I really shouldn't attempt to play percusiion but just stick to the piano!
On Sunday I was performing, and my brother was my page turner- he turned the page over 2 lines early, and I could not remember the notes so grabbed the page and turned it back, and when I had found my place again gave him a very annoyed glare- he claims "I started to early- I wasn't ready"- luckily the rest of the performance went OK and the audience where mostly unfamiliar witht he piece so thought it was part of the performance! This was not a very Magical moment!

Yeah, the first time i played my new flute was amazing because i'd been struggling with a terrible one for months. Also GCSE music has had it's magical moments. I was another person who was amazed to hear their c/w perfromed by amazing musicians. Also when i recorded my ensemble was great cos there was me and a load of music teachers, and i played a flute duet (me playing first flute!!) with my actual music teacher and then had laodsa other people accompanying. I felt so important cos i was leading them all.

Mine is the end of last year...christmas...i had been asking for a new trombone but i knew i would never get it becuase of the cost and its more than my parents would ever pay... they said they couldn't afford it so that was that... Christmas morning and i opened my presents, not many compared to my older siblings, but i was happy with my new pair of pyjamas and other stuff. Then my dad called me upstairs, he was in my bed room and on my bed lay a new trombone, the one i wanted, with a giant bow tied to it... The first note i played was terrible. but that was my magic moments..

The best moment for me playing the oboe would probably be getting to play be background music as people were coming in to hear the Royal Scottish National Orchestras christmas concert. I was playing christmas oboe duets with someone else and noone was really listening, but it was really good fun and we got free tickets for the concert!
