I like that one, we studied it for GCSE english smile.gif

I'm currently re-reading Beyond Nab End, the sequel to The Road To Nab End - the biographies of Wiliiam Woodruff into his early adulthood. Both good reads biggrin.gif

Speaking of GCSE English I must get round to re-reading To Kill A Mocking Bird, we did that one too - loved it biggrin.gif

I do read new books sometimes, honest ph34r.gif

laugh.gif Yep! Marian Keyes rules!

Though an AMAZING one I'd recommend is 'I like it like that' by Claire Calman...its a bit less trashy but amazing...made my cry...*sniff*

Also 'Can you keep a Secret' by Sophie Kinsella is really cute! biggrin.gif

I've just finished Naughts and Crosses by Malorie Blackman. I cried soooo much.

A Brave New World by Aldous Huxley - really good to compare with Orwell*'s 1984.

* Even though his name is Eric Arthur Blair wink.gif
sarah-flute
Andy: you want to read "We" by Evgeny Zamyatin and Farenheit 451 (I *think*) by Ray Bradbury - two more good dystopian novels smile.gif

Oh - and I am currently re-reading the Fleabag Trilogy by Beth Webb laugh.gif
recorderzrule
Chocolat by Joanne Harris
crazy cow
'One Child' by Torey Haydn, for about the 4th time!! It's my favourite book, I love it so much! Though it makes me cry....
'Billy' by Pamela Stevenson - about Billy Connelly, it's made me laugh a lot!
'The Art of Happiness' - H.H. Dalai Lama and Howard C. Cutler, which I'm getting through very very slowly...it's basically a mix between the views of Western psycology (sp?) and the Buddist beliefs from Tibet. Interesting, but quite hard going...

All of the Sophie Kinsella books are fab!! The secret dreamworld of a shopaholic, shopaholic abroad, shopaholic and sister, and apparently a sequel is coming out: Shopaholic and baby and then there's The Undomestic Godess.

CPPF: Isn't Can You Keep A Secret supposed to be coming out on film? Personally I don't think it'll be anywhere near as good as the book.
If you like this sort of books, try "P.S I love you". It's so sad sad.gif sad.gif I can't remember the author, it belongs to my sister. But the person who wrote that, wrote another similar book. Definately worth it...

But "Sophie Kinsella" is only a pen name. Her real name is Madeleine Wickham, and she published loads more. I recommend "Cocktails for 3".

I do read other stuff... Well, up until yesterday, I was reading "Psychology for A2" laugh.gif. At the moment, I am reading "A2 Small Ensembles".

But after monday I will be starting on my huge pile of stuff to read: "Jane Eyre" (again rolleyes.gif for at least the 10th time rolleyes.gif ), "One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest", and "To Kill A Mockingbird". Fab books, I have read all of them at least once... but I like them so much rolleyes.gif And various others....
nicki_flute
The Shopaholic series by Sophie Kinsella is fab. As is "Can you keep a secret"

Have you read his latest one "Seven Ancient Wonders?" A good read! I met him a few months back at a book signing.
Not really reading much at the moment. Have Ben Elton's "The First Casualty" to read. And I might give The Da Vinci code a shot

I've just finished No Shame, No Fear by Ann Turnbull: bought it with my birthday book tokens. I'm a historical novels addict!! biggrin.gif It's set in 1662 and it's about Quakers and the divide between rich and poor etc.... there's a sequel but I'm going to have to save up.

Also, I read A Litte Love Song by Michelle Magorian for the umpteenth time yesterday - that is a lovely, gorgeous book, like chick lit only it makes you think at the same time. (And it's set in 1943. So there's the historical thing again!)

I read a lot, recently read books I could recommend are "This thing of Darkness" by Harry Thompson, about Fitzroy and Darwin and the voyages of HMS Beagle - good if you're interested in history / evolution theory.

Also "The Knife Man - Blood, Body-snatching and the Birth of Modern Surgery" by Wendy Moore - a must for any wannabe medical student, or medics out there (SuzyMac - have you read this?).

And then I read "A Short History of Tractors in Ukrainian" by Marina Lewyka which was very funny and very poignant at the same time.

Have just started "Wilt in Nowhere" by Tom Sharpe - lots of rude words in this one so need to keep it out of sight of the kids, who love trying to read "Mummy's books" smile.gif

I'm currently reading "Stalingrad" by Antony Beevor (gripping historical account!!). The last 2 books I read were "The Pianist" (absolutely unputdownable - I'm still a little in love with Captain Wilm Hosenfeld - a beautiful person inside and out) and "To the Ends of the Earth" (by William Golding). My next read is "Fathers and Sons" (Ivan Turgenev). I read 3-4 books a month. I'm an incurable bookworm!! smile.gif

RE chick lits - has anyone read "The Devil Wears Prada"? It's recently made into a film (starring Anne Hathaway and Meryl Streep). I might get the book. The plot appears interesting.

The book is amazing but the film would be such a good chickfick if they get it right! I've not read any of her other stuff yet *puts shopaholic series on things to read list* smile.gif

Alibonebone!
Oh I forgot to mention, I've read alot of John Grisham book recently, and whilst they were good to begin with, his stories became a bit predictable as it was all much of the same. Also sometimes I felt the book was unfinished - I wanted to know more!!

Haven't read any JG, but have begun to feel that way about the Dan Brown books. I'm no great reader of mysteries, so I can't say I can see what's going to happen/predict the story, but some of the basic plot elements just start being so obvious - ie you just know the two main characters are going to fall in love, and I am just waiting to find out which of the supposedly "goodies" is going to turn out to be a "baddie"/betray the main character. Da Vinci I enjoyed and the twists surprised me. Angels & Demons was good (though gross in parts ph34r.gif) and I didn't expect the exact twists that happened - but I was not surprised when who was bad/good was not who was obvious. Deception Point I was waiting to find out who was the turncoat! I have to borrow the others of my bro's girlfriend and maybe he will surprise me, but by DP I was getting a bit annoyed with finding out that, however different the bits of story were, the basic plotline of deceptions and him trying to make you suspect the wrong people was getting a little irritating!

It is great - I read it when we were doing the WW1 in history, and then again when we went on a school trip to the battlefields which was really interesting.

I'm reading A Room With A View by E.M. Forster, Goodbye To All That, by Robert Graves (his autobiography) and working my way through Hamlet and King Lear which we're doing in Advanced Higher English. A few weeks ago our teacher asked everyone what they were reading at the time and everyone in the class was reading some great and difficult book... except me (I was reading, um, Sophie Kinsella's 'The Undomestic Goddess'!) It was a little embarassing ph34r.gif biggrin.gif

It's great to be finished exams and have time to read without thinking "I should be revising". smile.gif

I bought Sabriel by Garth Nix for my friend's birthday. Its a fab book...anyone else read it?

I was going to get 'Can you keep a secret' by Sophie Kinsella, but 2 branches of Waterstones, and WHSmiths all didn't stock it blink.gif

ooh..I like John Grisham! I've read the Firm and the Runaway Jury...both fantastic! biggrin.gif Anyone seen the Firm film thingy? Is it good? unsure.gif

Some of my favourite books were mentioned here! smile.gif Noughts & Crosses (fantastic - pity about the sequels though, not as great as the first book); Memoirs of a Geisha, To Kill a Mockingbird... biggrin.gif

I have just finished reading A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess. Hmm, better watch the film after this...
