Ah - crazy cow, I know what you mean about 'One Child' - an amazing story.

Although I've always loved reading I find I hardly ever have the time these days.

However, life is a tad stressy at home and at work at the moment, so I'm making the time to read as I desperately need the escapism...

A friend lent me Sue Monk Kidd's 'The Secret Life of Bees' which I loved. I gave Bagpuss the complete set of Ian Fleming's James Bond books at Christmas and she's just lent them to me and I love them! If I have a spare moment or am feeling extra-stressed and in need of escapism I dive in to one for a chapter or two. Just finished 'Moonraker' which is so different to the film but brilliant!

'Diamonds are Forever' next...

Edit - crazy cow, just saw it's your birthday - have a good one!!

Just been to library to relieve boredom ph34r.gif Got 'Forest of the Pygmies' by Isabel Allende. Its the third in her trilogy, which starts with 'City of Beasts' and then 'Kingdom of the Golden Dragon'...they're fab! biggrin.gif

One of my friends has now just lent me "Lord Loss" by Darren Shan. It is REALLY scary and gory though which is probably why she lent it to me as she hates the kind of sissy books I read and wants to bring me onto "proper" books. But they're too scary!
Oddball
I bought A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess in Birmingham (for an extortionate price), and it's really quite weird. Still getting into it blink.gif
crazy_purple_piano_freak
Are they anything to do with those Darren Shan Vampire books? They are really good! Thoguh I've read them in random orders so don't really get them...
musicbox
Wow! sounds good, must try it.
Boccherini
Has anyone read The Time Travellers Wife by Audrey Niffenberger?
It's really great ut I cried loads!

I loved the Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy too!
bassmadmatt
Recently I've been reading the works of P.J. Tracy, they're truly fantastic! Has anyone else read Dead Run, Live Bait, or Want to Play?
The Count
I'm afriad I haven't read any PJ Tracey. I'm reading or rereading should I say, poetry by TS Eliot at the moment - The Wasteland is one of my favourite poems

I'm re-reading the Lord of the Rings, as a prelude to trying to read the Simalliron (again- its scarily difficult!)
lillylemon
I'm currently reading A Natural History Of Viruses for uni but then on the other hand im also reading Rachel's Holiday by Marian Keyes
woodwind
Just finished Labyrinth by Kate Mosse (no, not the supermodel). I nearly didn't bother as it was described as "chick lit with A levels" and I ain't a chick but I'm glad I did. Echoes of The Da Vinci Code but better written and even more engrossing.

If you like this sort of books, try "P.S I love you". It's so sad sad.gif sad.gif I can't remember the author, it belongs to my sister. But the person who wrote that, wrote another similar book. Definately worth it...

I'm re-reading the Lord of the Rings, as a prelude to trying to read the Simalliron (again- its scarily difficult!)

I managed the first couple of bits of the Silmarillion, then gave up when I got to the longer story. Must try again sometime...

And 'I like it like that' by Claire Calman
SaxFan
Just read "The Time Traveler's Wife" which was lent to me (must remember to return it soon!)

Before that I struggled through some of "Moby ####" before I gave up. And now I am reading "Une Vie pour Deux" - a novel.

And I keep dipping into "Trumpet" by Howard Snell - a wonderful book not just about trumpet playing - but I came across it because of an inspiring saxophonist/trumpeter I met on a course.

I'm fairly new to these Forums, but hoping to make more contact with more musicians especially adult learners ---

Hello SaxFan,

I've too have just finished reading the Time Traveller's Wife. I wasn't sure about it at first, just thought it was strange, but in the end I couldn't put it down.

Oddball
Just started Animal Farm by Mr Orwell.
recorderzrule
Animal farm is really good. Did it at GCSE.

At the moment i have just read the sixth Harry Potter! Does anyone know when the seventh comes out?
Oddball
Probably not for a few years...she's spaced them out really far.

But I can't wait. They're just so well written. In fact, there was a mahoosive thread on the 6th HP...

CPPF will know laugh.gif

There's an indication it might be next year (after JKR's recent interview with Richard and Judy). Don't know how definite this is, though. Apparently she's changed her mind about the ending, leading to two characters dying who weren't going to, and one surviving who wasn't meant to originally. ph34r.gif
crazy_purple_piano_freak
Sorry guys, can't quote stuff sad.gif

But nope, CPPF does NOT know when itll be released laugh.gif Though like Andante says, there have been stroing hints that it will be 2007. Liz Calder, the Bloomsbury spokesperson/main thingummy blink.gif has hinted that it will be then....though personally I'd rather wait for 2008 ph34r.gif

Andante, I saw that interview!! There was/might still be a poll on mugglenet on who people think will be the character getting the reprieve...
Got slightly annoyed at all the kiddies on the interview who, given a one big chance to ask JKR a question, asked stuff like 'Who is your favourite character?' rolleyes.gif
SaxFan

I found it quite strange, Allannah, mostly in the way it is set out, with frequent "chapter headings" - took time to get used to that idea. It took me time to get used to the Time Travel idea - perhaps I am too firmly rooted in the present (at least I don't THINK I move around!!)

But then when I got the hang of that, yes it was very good. I have a couple of friends who read it and thought it so good. One of them just about insisted I read it!

You must try again - the Silmarillion is fantastic - it just takes a bit of getting into. I've read it a couple of times, in fact it's probably about time for a re-read!

The book I seem to be reading most at the moment is the Guiness Book of records 2005, which I just open on a random page evry now and then, I keep meaning to finish reading Scorpia, the ffth in the Alex Rider seris by Anthony Horowitz, I never get round to it though. sad.gif
Oddball
Having finished Animal Farm, I've moved onto Catch-22. It's a heavy one blink.gif

And I have no idea why, but when I see "Yossarian" written on the page, I always think it says "YetAnotherPianist" blink.gif
