Does anybody know if it is ok to play 2 grade 8 clarinet pieces on Bb clarinet and the 3rd (Schumann) on the A??

Considering that you can play two pieces on flute and one piece on piccolo for flute grade eight I should think that playing one peice on the A clari should be fine. However am suprised it doesn't state more specifically in the syllabus....does anyone know?? unsure.gif

i dont actually know but i would have thought you could. if they let you play the piccolo in flute grade 8 then i would have thought they would let you use an A clarinet. i think that for saxophone you can play the piece from list C on either an Eb or Bb sax.

what other pieces are you playing other than the Schumann?
Garkleine
I thought that the reason there has ever been more than one clarinet was to make the music easier to play in different keys.
Would you be transposing the piano part to fit or transposing the clarinet in bb part to make an A clarinet fit with the piano?? - if that makes sense what do you think?
If you want to play a study on A clarinet I can't see that it would matter as long as you played from the music as written as the written music must have been the criteria for selection with regard to technical difficulty etc.
No doubt there is an answer on this website somewhere! dry.gif

I'm sure you can play both clarinets- surely that's the point of having 2? When I used to do recorder exams (a loooooooong time ago, and i think it's different now) you could choose whether to play descant or treble in some of the pieces up to grade 5. Can't you ask your teacher? but as you say, I'm sure the answer is on this website somewhere! laugh.gif

if jill wants to play the Schumann on an A clarinet, rather than transposing she could just have the A edition of it rather than the Bb. according to the syllabus for that piece it says (Bb or A edition)
