Well....my teacher is a professional player, and I've had lessons from all the horn players in the professional orchestra we have here. I've had masterclasses from 2 famous horn players: Michael Thompson and David Pyatt, and a lesson with the principal horn of the Welsh National Opera. I've also 'worked with' some very famous conductors, too many to name, but my favourite has been Yan Pascal Tortelier. I've also been to a piano masterclass (just to watch) with John O'Connor (he's famous in Ireland) and played in a professional orchestra as part of a joint concert with a national youth orchestra.
So yes, I've met lots and lots of professional players! laugh.gif

I heard a very good recital by him on Radio 3.

My last flute teacher was a professional.

What's your definition of a professional musician exactly?

i would consider a professional musician someone who earns the majority of their money from performing in public- ie in an orchestra/chamber ensemble/soloist.

hehe that's weird - i used to have lessons with the principal viola of Welsh National Opera. He was wonderful, but had to stop after a term because he was too stressed by having to be in so many different places all the time.
I've also had a masterclass with Graham Oppenheimer, a viola player who has played with Yehudi Menuhin and James Galway. My current viola teacher used to be a member of the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, and i've also met a few musicians from that orchestra. Next year I'm auditioning for the National Youth Orchestra of Wales which is conducted by Owain Arwel Hughes.
I suppose all teachers are 'professional musicians' really, if that's how they get most of their income.

My teacher is a proffessional, he used to play either the violin or the viola, not sure, in the BBC symphony orchestra, he retired from it a few years back.

Well I have sung conducted by Brian Kay (Radio 2), Martyn Brabbins, and John Pryce Jones (whose son is in Idlewild!)
I have also had workshops with jazz pianist Pete Churchill (arranged some of the AB Jazz Piano syllabus, his voice and talent completely melted my heart and made me shiver), and another jazz pianist called Will Michael (also arr. stuff for AB Jazz Piano). Another one was Mike Brewer - inspirational. Also played Rodrigo's Concerto de Aranjuez with classical guitarist Craig Ogden in my Youth Orchestra, another brilliant performer.
Dont think im doing to badly!!!

I have met a few famous flautists, the most famous being James Galway.

my choir was run and may possibly be done again by the head of the national youth choir, Mike Brewer.

If I've made a living out of being a musician for many years (but now also supplement it with teaching) does this make me a professional musician? smile.gif

I've been invited to do a performance (with a guitarist) in a school next month. We've got to talk a little about our instruments and get some of the children to join in with percussion on one or two of the pieces.

I'm a teensty bit well-known on the jazz circuit.

Oh well, probably not - just a minor one. Never mind laugh.gif
