I looked around and I don't *think* we already have a thread for this. I thought it might be nice for those who want to share their results to have a special thread. My pupils and I haven't had our exams yet - they are on July 13th. We are doing:

Me
sax grade 8

Pupils
piano prep test
grade 1 clarinet
grade 1 sax
2x grade 3 clarinets
grade 3 sax
grade 4 clarinet
grade 5 piano

They have had their mock exams and most of them did well, just a little concerned about two of them who aren't working hard enough! I'm hoping to do well, but am busy with work and baby, and have a court case the day before my exam! So we shall see. Looking forward to finding out how everyone gets on!

My pupils have theirs on Tuesday July 4th:

4X Grade 1 Recorder
6X Grade 2 Recorder
3X Grade 4 Recorder

These are all taught in groups at school. Most did OK in their mock exams but not great. One of the Grade 1s has only just realised that she needs to practise - I hope she hasn't left it too late...
It has been hard to arrange lessons over the last couple of weeks because of rehearsals for their school production. I don't seem to have been able to give enough time to the Grade 4s - I hope they've been working on their own... Last lesson on Monday - Aaaargh!

Ooh, I'm excited for you now, Willobie! And glad that I'm not the only one fretting over children who haven't done enough yet! All the best for Tuesday.

Mine have done theirs - 22nd June - and I'm sitting here with no fingernails left, gnawing on my knuckles as we wait anxiously for the results.........!
yamaha
Mine were on the 26th.................

7 x Grade 1 piano
1 x Grade 3 piano
1 x Grade 4 piano
1 x Grade 6 piano

ph34r.gif

Plus, 2 x Grade 5 theory on the 17th as well smile.gif
JohnS
1 x Gr 4 Theory
1 x Gr 3 Theory
1 x Gr 6 Piano
3 x Gr 5 Piano
5 x Gr 4 Piano

Some will sail through the experience, others still need to crack on a bit! Most are on 12th July.
nannyjay
One of mine, a Grade 5 piano, is on 5th July.

On 13th July Grade 1 recorder (me)
Grade 1 piano
Grade 2 piano
Grade 4 piano

I let the student taking Grade 5 piano exchange his exam for his Grade 5 flute exam, as he was not ready for his flute (his other teacher asked me). Now I wish I hadn't as he's become a bit complacent with regard to his piano pieces and scales. Hope all works out OK and he gets it together on the day. smile.gif

We had our exams back on the 9th of June, so have had the results for about a week already.

I had:
1 Grade 5 piano
1 Grade 4 piano
1 Grade 2 piano
1 Grade 1 piano
1 Grade 5 treble recorder
2 Grade 4 treble recorders
2 Grade 3 treble recorders
1 Grade 1 treble recorder
1 Grade 3 descant recorder
3 Grade 1 descant recorders

Results tally was 9 Distinctions, 3 Merits and 2 passes, so I was very pleased.

I'm looking forward to next term, when I'll have my very first entries for clarinet candidates! smile.gif
dcmbarton
I had a Grade 4 Piano on the 20th June, and there's a Grade 3 Singing on the 14th July. No results for the 20th June yet.

Just arrived back from the exam centre. I entered:

2 x grade 1 clarinet
1 x grade 1 trumpet
3 x grade 1 cornet

All of the children came out of the exam room smiling and they'd definitely put in the practice so I'm hoping for some good results.
andante_in_c
This is a really unusual term for me, as I have no flute candidates. I have a glut of post-Grade 5s (some inherited) waiting to take theory next term. However, I'm awaiting the results from the two who took Grade 5 theory this term, and I have two treble recorder Grade 5s, one of whom is our very own katyjay. smile.gif I'm still waiting for a revised date for my other candidate, who has a school trip on her original date.

Great results, Jo.
andante_in_c
Ooh, yes, I meant to say that as well, Jo. Congratulations to you and to all your students. smile.gif
nannyjay
Congratulations Jo on your great results. Well done to your pupils too. smile.gif
Suepea
What a super set of results, Jo.

My three pupils did theirs on 16 June. The two Prep Test candidates had very nice remarks made, and I was especially pleased that the examiner commented on one of them having colour in her playing.

The grade 1 recorder achieved a distinction, with 29 for one of his pieces, which I was thrilled about and very pleased for him as he's worked so hard and although he's keen as mustard he doesn't always find it easy.

Well done, jo and students - wonderful results!

Thanks, all! The credit must go to the pupils, who all worked very hard.

The one I was most pleased with was a little lad who has one of these syndrome things which means that he finds it incredibly difficult to stand still while he plays - he's always wriggling about, standing on one leg and rubbing his feet on one another, and as you can imagine, that has dire consequences on tone, breath support etc blink.gif . I also have to be careful about giving too much criticism, because he can withdraw suddenly and completely from any communication (he apparently spent days at a time under the table in Infants' School ohmy.gif !), so I'd been cheerful and jokey about it - while inwardly tearing my hair out.

I was SO thrilled when during the exam he actually stood fairly normally, as it must have taken such an effort from him. And the icing on the cake was that he got the highest mark of the lot, and was able to take home the cup which I award to the highest-mark person each term. I've never seen such a big smile from a pupil - he, and his mum, were absolutely astounded! smile.gif
maggiemay
That's wonderful, Jo! Very pleasing, and particularly so for your little boy who gained the highest mark.
elliewelly
Well done to you all!

That's an interesting idea. Do other people do anything similar?
elliewelly
I buy a prize for the best practical and theory mark of the year, such as some new music, a CD or music stationery (for theory). I also publish all exam successes in my newsletter.
arabesque
well done on your results - I'm still nervously awaiting mine G8 Piano and a pupil doing G1 violin
Good luck to everyone waiting for results - so far no failures! i hope it lasts

That's an interesting idea.

I give out three cups each term - highest practical mark, highest theory mark and a cup for the person who IMO has worked the hardest that term, whatever their actual achievement or standard. The pupils keep them for a term - it's a very popular system, and pretty well all of them have ended up with one or other of the cups somewhere along the line. Even the adults are really pleased to get them!
maggiemay
I also publish all exam successes in my newsletter.

yes - I do that too. I think they quite like to see their names in print.

I usually give a small award (a book or some music) for a practical distinction. I like your cup idea Jo - although I don't consistently have enough exam candidates to make that really workable.
jod
It's great that teachers can be so pleased for their students. Almost makes up for the stomach in mouth feeling I get before accompanying all of them.

Talk about being terrified!

Well done, Jo, fantastic results biggrin.gif

Good luck to all awaiting exams and results... smile.gif

mine are in tuesday and thursday of this week - all lower grades this time:

2 x G1 cornet
1 X G1 tenor horn
1 X G2 cornet
1 x G3 trombone
1 x G4 Trumpet
1 x G4 French horn
1 x G4 Trombone

only really a bit concerned about 1 student this time although I would like all of them to make more of the music and add the contrasts!
maggiemay
Just had my one result online from June 22 (although no message by e-mail yet).

A grade 2 who has taken a really long time to bridge the gap between 1 and 2 got a high pass. Quite a pleasing result for this pupil - we had abandoned the idea of doing gr2 at one point.

The others were all theory candidates this term.

Well done everyone on the good results this session. Sometimes I think I'm talking to myself instead of teaching. When the results come out I know I haven't been! wink.gif

Too true! I'm still awaiting a result from the 20th June too. Funny how they can get some out, but not others?

The results from the spring session seemed to arrived quite quickly for most people.
A pity that's not continued.

I accompanied my 13 exams this morning in the baking heat! The children all came out feeling positive and said that the examiner was really nice. My superstitous nature tells me that this is a bad sign as friendly examiners tend to give low marks. I hope that doesn't prove to be the case as they had all worked really hard and most of them played their pieces quite nicely in the exam. Time to start the long wait...

Well done Willobie, Maggie and students!

I had a practice with my accompanist this morning and it went really well. I just need to keep doing lots of scales and sight reading now - feeling quite prepared. My students are doing OK - one of the two borderline ones got 101 in her mock exam yesterday. So not quite where I want her to be yet, but we have a week to go. I'm seeing six of the others tomorrow.

I think it has more to do with when the examiner finishes in a particular area. Having said that, the examiner that had the misfortune of hearing me play the sax finished on 22nd - so my result should be out at the same time as Maggies. *shakes fist again*

mine didn't - i had to phone the board a couple of times as one student needed his result to know whether he had met the minimum playing standard spcified (as if you can REALLY tell a player's overall standrad just by an exam result!!!!) to be eligible for a forthcoming audition.

They took 3 weeks in the end (still pretty quick - but not quick enough for parents of aforementioned student, who thought it was something to do with me why it took "so" long and moved teachers!). No loss really!

Got my first distinction for a jazz piano exam : 136, and the little lad who took it is only just 9, what a star! Still waiting for the classical results. Had London College keyboard exams today, nightmare, almost definitely some failures there: several of the entrants "teenage can't-be-bothered's", and some special needs kids playing up, phew, what a day!

That's what happened with my Trinity candiadates the results two fails and a pass mad.gif

My Ab Grade 1 pianist got 127, and is delighted. She took her exam on 19th June 2006, and the reults arrived in the post yesterday!
andante_in_c
I've had several really nice examiners recently who also marked positively, so it doesn't always hold. However, the one we had last term was 'falsely' nice, if I can put it like that. He told two of mine that he had never heard the sight singing so beautifully sung, which didn't ring true to me (especially when the second one told me he'd said that). And then the marks and comments were rather low, and the comments lacking in any depth.
elliewelly
Eek! My exams are in less than 2 days! I've been practising SO hard, and am getting a bit scared now! blink.gif I've heard the examiner is really nice though - one of my friends' pupils took a flute exam at the same centre last week and the examiner told her she is there for 2 weeks. She was friendly to the student and thanked my friend for accompanying, so that's good. It helps when they go out of their way to put you at ease! Anyone else got exams this week?
organist_katy
My organ exam was today!! (And there's a rather long ramble about it on Viva Organ laugh.gif) My examiner was very nice and friendly, also seemed very professional about making sure people stayed out of the church during the exam. Just hoping that the 'friendly examiners mark low' thing doesn't apply!
elliewelly
It doesn't, in my opinion. Do pop in when you get your results, as we'd love to hear how you did.
beatrice
When you do all get round to posting your results here, could you also put the candidates ages in as I would love to be able to compare results as I havent been able to find this information and it would provide some sort of benchmark.

I think this defeats the huge advantage that instrumental exams have over other sorts of assessment: that you can take them when you're ready, and not at a certain age. Factors such as number of terms' tuition are an important factor, after all.

I have two candidates taking Grade 5 treble recorder this term: one is 26 years older than the other. Giving their ages would say nothing about what each has achieved.

I entered 6 candidates for electronic and digital keyboard. Results are:

Initial - 2 distinctions
grade 1 - 1 merit and 1 distinction
grade 4 - pass
grade 6 - merit

I'm really pleased as it's been a bit of a disappointing year so far exam wise and I was really worried about the grade 6 as it was the first time I'd entered anybody at this level. Also I've never had distinctions in the past and was beginning to wonder if I was doing something wrong!

Well done, LizzieT! Especially for the grade you hadn't entered any for before.
Don't beat yourself up about not having any distinctions yet - they are rare anyway, and, at the risk of being controversial, I think teachers who boast about the majority of their students getting distinctions may be entering them for the wrong grade! One reason I won't post my results on here - every student is under different pressures, has different difficulties, and one persons pass could actually be their distinction!
