Full Version: Grade 5 Piano Cd Turned Into Lafee?

I've just bought the ABRSM CD of the piano 2007-08 from musicroom. Came this morning. I opened the sealed packet, but noticed a mark on the CD. Thought I'd try it anyway, and it's not grade 5 piano at all. It's a group called LaFee ohmy.gif

How weird is that?

Didn't like to listen to too much. Bit heavy rock for me first thing in the morning!

Tried it on 2 computers to be sure, and it's definitely not the grade 5 list! ohmy.gif

Goodness. I wonder how that happened? Unless of course the grade 5 syllabus has changed dramatically. smile.gif

laugh.gif Much that I feel ABRSM should get with the times, I'm not sure I want it moving that quick ohmy.gif

Can't understand it. Gracenote picked up the info for LaFee, but sometimes it does get the wrong stuff. Couldn't believe it when I played it and it was still wrong.

Can't see that Gracenote would actually superimpose the music over the Grade 5 stuff. Never had anything happen like this before. I don't think anyway...perhaps I listen to a whole load of music that I think is something else rolleyes.gif

Just let eldest son listen to the CD. He said "cool" cool.gif

He's never said that about an ABRSM CD before. biggrin.gif

Have you 'phoned Musicroom, and what did they say?
Louise
I'm just about to email them.

I was thinking...there can't have been just one of these I wouldn't have thought. The CD was sealed, so I'm assuming some kind of error when it was produced. Maybe a batch of them incorrect? The other grades that I bought seem to be fine.

So, has anyone else bought the new Grade 5 piano CD and listened to it?

Years n years ago I bought a Sandy Denny cassette (that dates it, before CDs were even thought of) and I got The Incredible String Band in the box instead.

I must happen from time to time.

Hilarious!!! What about the fans of this group who may have ABRSM Grade5 Piano? Bet they got a shock!

Or maybe.......................it''s some kind of re-education programme?

Hey Louise you and your son haven't been behaving oddly have you? Just wondering f there's a hidden message????????????????

My Grade 5 CD works fine but my Grade 7 one doesn't - the first tune doesn't play and it skips to the second which is really disappointing as that is one of the tunes I thought i might like. ..... being a kind of sad person I like to listen to the ABRSM cds for fun which is why i bought a couple of different grades!!!

Any reply yet? As you say, it could possibly be a production error - in which case your CD may not be unique.
Louise
Only the automated one to say they would reply in 48 hours sad.gif

I'm wondering if they think I'm kidding!

rolleyes.gif Maybe they're trying to work out the difference between Lafee and ABRSM grade 5 piano. ohmy.gif

Sadly, my students have preferred laFee and are begging me not to return it ohmy.gif

It has given us a lot of laughs though laugh.gif

laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif Are they going to do grade 5 Lafee then? ohmy.gif
Louise
Of course. Obviously not until 2007 at the earliest. We still have to do the 2005-06 syllabus until then laugh.gif

laugh.gif True! If they start now, will they be ready for the March session?
Louise
Hope so. We'll have to working on the bits where they scream. Wonder if ABRSM do any Screaming Made Easy books that we can work through?

Perhaps I'll check on musicroom laugh.gif If I start with Grade 1 and work through quickly, reckon we can get to grade 5 by spring.

Workshops...hey that's a good idea. LaFee workshops led by ABRSM. Reckon they're onto a money maker there smile.gif

I'm sure they do. They tend to have publications to match exam requirements smile.gif - 'The AB Guide to Screaming' perhaps, or 'Screaming in Practice'.
