Hi guys,

Im considering of buying a piano and a friend of mine offer me the second-hand digital piano "Clavinova CVP 205" ,with silent features, and it had been used for 4 years.
Is the tuts for the above piano the same as normal Upright pianos? Is digital piano suitable for graded students (currently grade 8).
Any good advice will be much appreciated, before i make the final decision. Thanks in advance

Best regards,

No, a digital is not the same.
Some of the better ones now are good for feel and sound, if it's the only way you are going to have an instrument to play then you would manage ok.

The spec looks good at

I've never played that model, so can't comment on the touch..

I'd be careful if it is getting old. It's possible that a part could go and then you have the expense of sorting it out. Of course, it might give you years of good service. It's not like an acoustic piano where you can look inside to see if it's good for the purpose.

I have a CVP (not the 205 though) which I've been generally pleased with.

It's not the same as an acoustic piano, as Sbhoa says, but it's much better than a keyboard would be.
Four years is not a great age, mine is more like ten and still works fairly well - but a word of caution - I understand that Yamaha keep spares for only three years - which would be tricky if you needed a part replaced.

-->thats what im curious, Johns,if one of the tuts out of order, how to repair and tune the piano since the inside cant be seen? Is the expenses higher than those of Acoustic piano?

We can only really give our own personal views.
It depends what you want from your instrument and what your circumstances are.
My own view is if you are fairly serious about your piano playing and have the budget and the space then get a decent acoustic piano.
If money and/or space is a problem (though, if you think about it you are not talking about a huge size difference) or you need to be able to use earphones to avoid annoying people at the time you practice then the digital may be a better option for you.

I'd go for it. Yamaha are a reputable brand, and as most of the components of a digital piano are solid state electronics, I think the chances of requiring spares are slim.
I recently had an old Clavi - it must have been about 10 - no problems.

Yup, i ve just realised that digital pianos only last for 10 years....and the touch are not that firm as to the upright pianos.
What a surprise, the Yamaha now didnt have any model for Clavinova 250...

Perhaps i should consider further..smile.gif
Thanks guys for helping me.

Cheers,
