Well tonight was the Recorder Roadshow in Rhyl Town Hall (erm...in Rhyl suprisingly enough!) featuring Piers Adams, 2 consorts, a load of school kids, a percussionist as backing for a couple of numbers, and the forums very own recorderzrule (a.k.a. Joy) who did a superb trio sonata with Piers Adams along with a (keyboard) harpsichord and contrabass recorder continuo! Ok so Piers kinda rushed the last movement on poor Joy :/ but wow she was SOOOOOOOO professional.

Thanks Joy for getting me down there for that evening! smile.gif Totally worth the travel!

And the fact of meeting Piers Adams in the flesh WOW! My hero wub.gif Even got him to sign my program *sigh* wub.gif ended up totally praising him after the concert, which was mindblowingly good! even with little kids!
Cyrilla
Piers has a remarkably high pain threshold. I've seen him teach groups of children barely able to squeak three notes - not only does he not wince AT ALL, but within 10 minutes has got them making MUSIC and not just notes.

The man's a genius.

Glad you enjoyed the evening, IL, and well done recorderzrule. biggrin.gif If we'd known the question would arise, you could have asked him which recorder he used for the Scottish Suite (see Shine and Shade thread).

Red Priest are playing at Chobham (near Woking) on the evening of the Forums Concert in September. I'm trying to work out the logistics of a Forums outing to get there by 7.30 - I think it might be too difficult. sad.gif

The actual playing at the Forums concert should end by about 5.15 (then it's the socialising bit till we have to leave the premises at 6), so I suppose it's theoretically possible if people want to zoom straight off at the end! I've got to stay there till 6 myself - and will be very tired at the end of a long day anyway - so I wouldn't be able to go.

Hi everyone.

Thanks Chris for the mention!! It was such a great night. He signed my score of the triosonata for me afterwards, after Howard had dug it out from the bottom of his suitcase! laugh.gif
The kids were great players. It was my old primary school who took part and I loved it there.
I think I made a good job of keeping up with him on that last movement tongue.gif

Still on a high biggrin.gif

I'm going to see Red Priest in Chester on Tuesday as part of the Chester Festival biggrin.gif biggrin.gif Can't wait!!

Having popped both place names into a well known web based journey planner, it says Woodford-Chobham takes 1hr 25min. If you left at 5.15ish, I think you'd make it Andante. smile.gif

Yes, but can I bear to rush off at 5.15 and miss the socialising? I'll think about it. smile.gif

Hate to be a spoilsport, but has this been factored into your timings, Jo? Barry? (subsequent edit - sorry!)

A five-mile contraflow on the M25, with one junction closed and severe delays threatened. Last time we did that section of the roadworks (in May) we queued for a couple of miles before we reached the contraflow, and spent considerable amounts of time at a standstill.

I shall monitor this for the Forums Concert, and post the most recent information I can beforehand on the concert thread, but people who are driving need to plan ahead, especially if they need to arrive early or get home quickly.
jo.clarinet
I have little idea of roads, not being a driver blink.gif . It wasn't me that did the timings from Woodford to Chobham anyway, it was Barry! The concert will end at around 5.15 - that's definite. smile.gif

Oops, sorry Jo and Barry.
