i bought the book two days ago and i want to learn an easier one first, any suggestion and what grade standard are they?
fsharpminor
They vary from about Grade 4 up to 8+

The easiest (grade 4 ish) are:

Op19 No 4 in A, Op19 No6 in G Minor (a good one to start with I think), Op30 No 3 in E, Op102 no 6

Just a little harder (grade 5-6) than these three are Op 30 No 6 in F# minor, and Op 38 No2 in E flat

After that I would say Op 19 No 2 , Op53 No 1, Op53 No 4, Op62 No 1, Op62 No 5, Op67 No 5, Op85 No 6, Op102 No 5.

Hard ones (Grade 8+) are Op 19 no 5 , Op30 No 4, Op38 No 6 (Duetto, often has been set for Grade 8, and a favourite of mine)

Hope this helps.

I think you need to think intelligently about what it is your trying to achieve. So many times on this forum I see posters saying this piece is grade 8, this one is grade 6 etc. Forget it, it doesn't really matter and all your doing is putting a mental block, and negative thoughts into your brain. Just get on with it and learn the piece and if you get stuck ask a good music teacher to help you out.

I'm grade 8, so what! it hasn't prevented me from taking on more challenging pieces, I can play a lot of Rachmaninov pieces even good sized chunks from the Rach 2 and Rach 3 and loads of Chopin and Liszt. My 12 year old son has just taken G2 and can play the first two pages of Chopin's Ballade in G minor.

Stop all this rubbish about what grade level a piece of music is, it's not important unless your actually going to take an exam. Just have fun and learn to play.

I love the duetto too.

Remember that the same pieces have often been set for different exams. Can't think of any examples right now, but people have often said 'grade 7? I played that for my diploma!' There are many different 'levels' of 'playing' a piece smile.gif

Indeed I also played it for ALCM in 1963, but it has been fairly recently set for Grade 8, maybe about 3 syallabusses (syllabi ?) ago
