At the risk of being contraversial - find a good teacher to listen to you and give you guidance as to what may be going wrong. No good us telling you how to do it, you need another pair of ears to hear if it's working!

Is it true that you'll need to be mature to do it?? blink.gif blink.gif Because I believe my voice is like....a child's voice.... tongue.gif like screaming and yelling..... laugh.gif

I find these posts about Highest lowest - loudest baffling
When I was a young singer what I wanted to do was make people LIKE my voice and what I did with it so that they would

1 Give me parts
2 Pay me money to sing and ask me back for more

This included everyone from opera producers to aged persons in OAP homes and believe me they were the most critical The usual comment being "Nice voice - shame about the face "

Joining in the"grunt and squeak " competitions seems pointless Most PROFESSIONAL singers have more notes in their range than they would use or want to It is the quality of their working range and their artistry that matters

Messing about with the voice unsupervised leads to serious vocal problems ask any teacher who has to try and clear up the damage of inadvisable vocalising

If it's like screaming and yelling - STOP! And find a teacher!

Okay.... sad.gif sad.gif
But I want to learn pop songs, not classical singing though. sad.gif

I imagine most piano teachers would be more interested in teaching you to use your bigger voice in the lower register. Are you bass, baritone or tenor?

I've trained as a baritone, and I have developed a few higher head notes. I'll sing some falsetto for fun only.

I suppose that you could find a teacher of counter-tenor that would build up that end of your range.

YOU NEED A TEACHER BEFORE YOU WRECK YOUR VOICE FOREVER (stops shouting), preferably a man if you wnat to sing falsetto with a good tone, preferably a counter-tenor. Thry going to your local cathedral and see if you can speak to the Alto Layclerk. The chance is they will be grateful for the work.

I think their point is that regardless of what kind of singing you want to do you have to learn proper technique. Our choir once did the Chichister Psalms for a concert. Unsurprisingly they brought a specialist in to do the counter tenor solo, as no-one in the choir was trained to do it, and would have wrecked their voices. Falsetto is painful unless you are taught properly.

I'm puzzled, George, why would you want a piano teacher to teach singing?

Probably because as a singer I teach all my instruments, Piano, Oboe, and of course singing!

You can tell George is a baritone - they are always the ones shouting - who drink and smoke a lot laugh.gif

This is probably totally untrue but is based on my wife's experience of working as an actress at the Colly a few years ago

You could tell when the baritones where in session - canteen was filled with smoke and rude jokes

These rude jokes would be faithfully repeated to the principal tenor just as he was gong on stage to do a tragic bit involving a soprano dying (no jokes please )

I'm a Baritone...and now almost a bass sad.gif ....that's why I found falasetto exceedingly difficult. sad.gif

Are you absolutely sure you have this right? I may be wrong, but I have heard no evidence that a baritone would have more trouble in falsetto than a tenor. The physical side is so different - I think of falsetto as a separate voice.

There are lots of interesting things that you can do as a bass baritone. Solo, Choral, Harmony.

No. it's not right. Our whole bass section in choir did a 'lovely' falsetto chorus a few weeks ago.

My lay-clerk friend who has done recitals with me is a natural baritone, but he sings alto. I thought most Counter-tenors were usually baritone falsettists!

Is that true?? All voices can do fasetto?? ohmy.gif So what's the highest note in falsetto can a baritone reach?? ohmy.gif

All adult male voices should have a falsetto register. But its best not to mess around with it, get professional help or you could give yourself a vocal injury.

My top note in normal voice is F# (usually)!. In falsetto I get an extra seven tones or so - almost another octave. Come to think of it, I am not sure what falsetto would do for a tenor that could already sing a high C. Perhaps a tenor would be kind enough to comment.
tonyteech

Most tenor singing is organised head voice ie you can control the dynamics of it Using headvoice only NOT falsetto I can sing up to an F sharp or a G above top C if really warmed up

More importantly I can do octave jumps up to about F above Top C

I do not like using falsetto because it leads to wrong placement for a tenor in my opinion
