Hey guys,
I got into Manchester this morning from NYC. What a place! I'm not going to write much as I'm in great need of bed but here goes...
I'll just fill you in on the musicky aspects.
There were three gigs planned throughout the week for our choir, the first of those being at South St Sea Port at the band stand there. This had limited success as the audience were simply passers by who didn't really pay much attention. We did put on a good show but it's very strange performing outdoors as the acoustics are so much different!
The second gig was at a church on Staton Island. The priest there always hosts international acts and fills the place as he does huge a marketing push every time. However at this gig, there were 15 people. The marketing company he usually used had closed until after the 4th July holiday, and our gig was on the 9th, so people in the area had all but 2 days notice. It was a shame because it was a really nice place and the acoustics were beautiful! But hey, c'est la vie, as we were to find out.
The third gig.
Well, it didn't happen. I don't know if any of you saw on the news but there were huge storms on Manhattan on Wednesday evening, which was the day that we were supposed to playing another out door gig in Washington Square. Obviously, the thousands of pounds worth of equipment that we'd lugged 3,500 miles was not going to be risked so we packed up and went.
As you can see, the performances did not go too well. However, there were other musical parts of the trip which were really good, for example going to watch Rent on Broadway, stumbling across jazz bars in Greenwich village and singing in the coach! It was a great trip over all, it was just a shame that nobody turned out to watch us!
Now for some well earned sleep,
Night all!
