Well guys I have my Grade 8 organ exam tomorrow morning, i cant say im nervous as i dont tend to get nervous for exams anymore, i think its becuase i have done so many!
The only thing i will be a little nervous of tomorrow is justhoping that the MIDI all works okay between the organ and keyboard as im sure everyone who has used MIDI before will know it can be a pain at times!!!
Ah well im sure it will be okay, i used all thepieces from grade 8 for my Music degree recital back in June and that went very well and i got an A for it so lets hope i do as well tomorrow!!!

Good luck Deborah. I'm a bit confused though.. what's MIDI got to do with grade 8 organ? Is this classical/pipe organ?!

Its electronic organ, and im using the MIDI to link my keyboard up to the organ to use the sequencer as the keyboard has a better sequencer than my organ.

Is this the second Grade 8 organ exam you've taken, perhaps with another board? I notice it says Grade 8 organ in your signature already.
What organ and keyboard will be in your kit?

All the best for your exam. Don't forget your banana for nerves, just before.

Ooops that should say Grade 7!
I have a Technics KN7000 keyboard and my organ is a Technics GA3

Out of interest, what's the difference between gr8 keyboard and gr8 organ? What's the repertoire like?

The asking of the syllabus is the same with the Guildhall, you play a set study piece, an own arrangment, an own composition and a medley.
Then there is the scales, chord construction, sight reading, musicianshi[ questions, playing a short piece transpoed up or down a tone and aurla/inititative tests.
When you ask about the difference between them do you mean the playing of them? There is a huge difference between the two if that is what you mean.

My query is really founded in my ignorance. I always thought of "organ" to mean classical/pipe organ and "keyboard" to cover theatre organ etc. I am therefore still confused even with your kind answer. Perhaps I should just read the syllabi and stop being so dumb!!

Well electronic keyboard and electronic organ and very different indeed, with the organ being played just as a classical/pipe organ would but with a lesser number of pedals and the hands doing much more technical work.
Keyboard on the otherhand is often limited to chords inthe LH and melody in the RH where the exams are concerned although in the guildhall syllabus they incoroporate piano style playing into the keyboard exams.

Well guys I have just got back and I am pleased to say it went very well indeed. He was a lovely examiner, so friendly and chatty. He spent 15 minutes telling me funny stories about his past exam experiences!
Juts got to wait a couple of weeks for the results now!
