I have realised with some horror that my metronome seems to take not a scrap of notice of how beautiful my scales would be if it didn't keep ticking and pretending I don't play smoothly and accurately!

My musical activity will now be to try to bring it into line with my way of thinking of scales biggrin.gif

We established last year that metronomes are part of an evil conspiracy. They speed up in the difficult bits of whatever one is playing.

And pianos go sharp for some unaccompanied singers.

I blame the government.

*nods* definately. Also I'm sure there's a small creature that lives in my violin and re-tunes my strings when I'm up the top of a 3 octave scale so it sounds like I've gone out of tune dry.gif
SaxFan

it is clearly a Big Conspiracy.

I go along with you KJ it's got to be the government's fault. mad.gif

My metronome has no concept of beat and rhythm... ohmy.gif
... together with contempt for my playing!!

and all that, KJ, as I was practising for 17th sad.gif
katyjay
The REALLY scary thing it that it was nearly two years ago that we established that there was a conspiracy. In a thread that discussed the musical Spud Gun and the possiblity of putting a flute in the dishwasher.

Ahhh, those were the days.

and you mean to say that metronomes seem to be about the ONLY thing the government has NOT regulated?
Perhaps that is one little ray of light and hope... smile.gif

They don't perceive a need to regulate metronomes. Metronomes are a tool of depression and supression without any extra government interference.

(mine, by the way, has taken to ticking in swung quavers. I think I'm going to have to dismantle it again....)

True. But why should they hold back from interfering? Doesn't bother them in other things biggrin.gif

you might be pleased to hear that one of my pieces feels ok, DESPITE my metronome smile.gif

Excellent! I've still got work to do on mine. Especially the duets.

The government are unlikely to interfere as it would run the risk of increasing our comfort and happiness. And that would not be appropriate
SaxFan
and the metronome is coming in line with my other piece gradually!

This is confirmed by some of my young students when I get them finding notes on the piano....... they are often in the wrong place.

Well, one of the things I'm meant to be working on this afternoon is a particularly stretchy Brahms lied. It has the most evil modulation on the planet in the middle of it - F minor to E major. I just can't sing it without going flat in the middle. sad.gif

Must be awfully boring for them watching music practice. Especially if it's anything like mine - sing up to a problem section, work on it ad nauseam, sing on again, repeat.....

QUOTE(noodle @ Feb 3 2007, 04:15 PM) *

Apparently I have to retire at 60. I'd retire tomorrow but that's a different story! Yet they allow school crossing patrol people to work until they are well over 80. There is a lady working for school near us who is 93! So, can anyone exlain why a 60 year old is deemed incapable of looking after the musical education of a child, yet be fit to look after their safety on busy roads until they are in ther 90s? Obviously there is a logical reason.... I just can't seem to think of it!

I know!! When I retire as a teacher, I'll become a lolipop person! laugh.gif

As for today's musical activities - sax practice - NOW!! Bye!

I wouldn't be the person to discuss retirement ages, given that I retired shortly after my thirty-eighth birthday! laugh.gif

I'm playing scales and arpeggios while I'm forumming. smile.gif
Clariano
I'm going to try some clarinet mouthpieces to see if I can decide which one I would like. My clarinet teacher wants me to get a warmer tone rolleyes.gif If it makes me a better clarinet player then I'll go for it!!!
Fen
that's just too much multitasking!!
Thanks Katyjay for a musical morning!

Today I've been practicing my recorders as I'm going to a recorder group soon.

I doubt they'd want me if they'd heard me this evening.

Picked my flute up after having it serviced, it's all nice and shiney now. Hve missed it lots so played it when I got it home too!

Currently listening to some Haydn piano sonatas played by Alfred Brendel... on audio-cassette - remember them rolleyes.gif

a week or so ago my musical activity was sorting a load of cassettes that were taking space and not being listened to. Disposed of a lot to good homes, but this is one I kept - glad I did.
Devil_Fiddler
Listening to some music on myspace by a band I discovered yesterday called All Jigged Out. Really like what they do biggrin.gif
SaxFan
still the Haydn/Brendel, but they will have to give way to my scales etc on sax very soon!
Then a musical coffee smile.gif

Beethoven piano sonatas now
