Aren't the best TV theme tunes those where you can sing the title of the programme to the first few notes of the theme tune? (eg Coronation Street -try it tonight and you'll see what I mean....

)
Musical activity today - teaching, and, arguably, printing parts out for the CD recording.
Tomorrow : teaching and SRP
Sunday : more CD recording work.

Planning to play my flute lots this evening - had it serviced on Tuesday and I had a quick play when I got it home and couldn't believe what a difference a few minor adjustments had made - maybe it's psychological but it just seemed to soar in the top octave

Just waiting for the kids to go off to sleep before I go and make a start....
Was very frustrated Weds night as I had to go out and didn't get chance to play it, and then last night I fell asleep on the sofa

No, but I hate it. I freeze when I have to do solos. I'd much rather hide - it's part of my introvert nature.
I wasn't pleased when he told me today that because the first flute in Porgy and Bess won't be coming on tour, I have to do all the solos.

I am only being given them because the person can't do it, not because I am their first choice.
But I don't do extrovert! My music teacher told me I needed to show off more, because I am apparently too modest.

Have you tried "acting" the role... "Today I shall play in the style of James Galway/Wib/whoever" - pretend you're doing an impression of a famous flautist...

What do you mean "wrong"??? Do you mean not quite 100% perfect? Or so wrong that you were drummed out of the orchestra and told never to darken their door again? No I thought not

I wouldn't mind betting it was only you who thought they were "wrong" enough to worry about, because you haven't said that the director made a big issue out of it. He's probably sensible enough to know that even professional orchestral players make mistakes. Why don't you tell yourself that yes, you might go wrong, but if you do, you'll play the wrong stuff with such panache that everybody will think it's right....

Well the first one was wrong in the sense that I wasn't actually playing in time. And the next one, he couldn't hear me (that was because I HATE soloing, so I go all shy and quiet). The next one was completely out of sync too.

As the soloist, they should all be keeping time with you! That's what I'd tell them anyway!

Nicki, if you were THAT dreadful, you wouldn't have been asked to replace the first flute on the tour - the conductor wouldn't want the stress of a complete noddy playing the solos, he'd have time to find someone else to do it.
So, since he hasn't looked for something else, I'm prepared to bet that he WANTS you to play the solos. And that must be because you're actually pretty good.
