Nice one Jane. And I'm sure he was the one who wrote "the Four Seasons" and not Vivaldi wink.gif

Entry of the Gladiators ... wasn't that one of the tunes that the Two Ronnies used in their Brass Band sketch?

"Here it comes then - last number - Entry of the Gladiators. See you at the stage door straight after - the Chinese shuts at 11 -
(sings)
Prawn chop suey and a chicken fritter,
Large Drambuie and a pint of bitter,
Corkscrews and waiters,
Rice and potaters,

"'urry up and finish with these ######## gladiators

Three pink gins and a Napoleon brandy,
Two dry sherries and a half of shandy,

I'll run amok! two crispy duck!

wishing you the best of luck

Herbert's drunk so much he can hardly stand etc etc

So - it's goodnight from the boys in the band."

Yeah, thats the one
fsharpminor
Rautavaara is Finnish. He has a long first name as well , but havent time to look it up just now.

Of course my Giovanni Pizza da Chiesa (see earlier post) was a complete figment of my imagination.
Some years ago when I was involved in admin of a Youth Orchestra, I set a short quiz of the 'Odd man out' type.
I asked which was odd one out of Giovanni Pizza da Chiesa, Oliphant Chuckerbutty, Zoltan Sosij, and Freud Rascherov-Hamm.

Of course Oliphant is the only genuine composer.
