I am 6' 4" tall and have some difficulty getting my legs under the front end of the piano. The stool, needless to say, is on its lowest setting.

Any other tall (over 6') pianists out there have the same problem?. sad.gif

Yeah, me me me !!! biggrin.gif

I am about the same, perhaps a shade less. I don't find it so much of a problem with uprights, but on grands it can get quite awkward. Especially for pedalling. Some of the stools don't go low enough either dry.gif

I'm just a smidge taller than 6ft, but have no problem getting my legs under the piano :S

I suppose it depends more on the leg length than the height though...I have a 35/36 inside leg.

I agree with both of Oddball's points, yes indeed it's a matter of (lower) leg length mainly, and also seems to be worse on grands than uprights. The latter point might be to do with the situation of the pedals, or the thickness of the keyboard area.

I'd say it is perfectly OK to mount the piano on castor cups, e.g. these: http://www.pianocoversonline.co.uk/pianoac...ps-c-34_94.html . You could put additional shims of wood under the cups as required to raise the instrument further.

However, this raising operation will not affect the pedal-to-keyboard base distance, which is of course fixed, it just alters the floor-to-keyboard base distance.

Also you can avoid wearing shoes with thick heels, try slippers wink.gif

The trouble with putting the piano on castors is that it's then almost impossible to pedal properly without holding your whole leg up. I've come across a fair few of these and it gets quite uncomfortable after a while!

Yes! this is the problem with me. My lower legs (tibia y fibula) are long so that when I am in a sitting position my knees and thighs are tight against the lower part of the keyboard. I have to 'hinge' my ankle awkwardly to use the pedals, and having a baby grand, as you know, the pedals are suspended at a fixed distance off the floor.

Similar problems when driving the car. sad.gif

I can imagine, yes. I've adopted a total bend from the hip out to the side, so you are in effect pedalling slightly sideways...

I am 6 foot 2 !! I always have this problem and i always have to sit about a metre away from the piano because my arms are so long!!
