All the contents of our PM inboxes have disappeared without warning! I had messages there that I was intending to keep... have they gone for ever? Why weren't we told they were going to do this? Or did I miss the announcement? Aaarrrghhh...

Violinia

No, I don't think there was any announcement - I think it was due to a problem with the site. There have been a few - gremlins - recently

I had the same problem, and the same annoyance sad.gif - the very irritating thing being that last week I had started sorting through my inbox answering older messages and saving the ones I wanted, but hadn't got very far sad.gif

Yes, rather annoying. Did you ever get my last PM Violinia, or shall I send one again?

What is rather bizarre is that even thought all the messages have disappeared the thing at the side still says I have 25 messages in my Inbox and 15 sent! Wonders of modern technology...

I don't know if the old PM messages have gone forever or will be restorable. A lesson to us all to archive or backup any messages we want to keep in future.

Archie is still missing from my profile photo...he's probably off chasing rabbits.

And the back button still moves in mysterious ways. I think the number of times it needs to be pressed to get back, is directly proportional to the number of messages in the thread you happen to be reading at the time.

Bit of a pain all of this but I'm sure it will all be fixed in due course.

If you click on your inbox and go back and refresh your control panel again, you will find that the '25' next to your inbox will disappear. Same with the 'sent' messages. smile.gif

I suspect the messages (and profile photos) are still in the database, they've just become unlinked from their owners. In theory they will be restorable; in practice it depends if anyone at the AB has both the inclination and the know how to do it.

Use Firefox and open each thread you want to read in a new tab: eliminates the same need for the back button biggrin.gif. I have to say I haven't had any problems with the back button then again it might just be IE....

I use IE and have yet to discover what the problem with the back button is... huh.gif unsure.gif blink.gif

If you had a problem with the back button, you'd know about it!!! ohmy.gif sad.gif mad.gif

My Inbox now says it is empty and I have not deleted anything. It's a pity, because my PM house-keeping is good, and those were the ones I actually want to keep!

Any further update from Christine Morris?

Things go technical, but it would be nice to know when normal service is going to be restored as the PM function clearly is not. (The answer as long as a piece of string is ok, just as long as I know that the techies are dealling with it.

Do I have to report myself to bring this to the mods attention?

Nah - it's happening on my Yahoo browser - which uses tabs like firefrox blink.gif

Back button problem sounds like this.

The amount of clicks = the amount of times one has to press the back button to get to the previous page, minus 1. smile.gif

Haven't counted, but I reckon that's about it. The number of clicks= the number of flashes of the hour glass = the number of messages in the thread (or on the page displayed) or thereabouts.

laugh.gif There isn't a problem with my back button either Sarah!!

I don't think I've got one.

on my front however ...

(I'm hearing the Goon Show ... "turn the handle on your side"

On the page rather than in the thread - otherwise no-one would dare read CISD! wink.gif

I'm using "top" then "View new posts" but then I have to find where I was on the new posts. Otherwise I'll get RSI with all the mouse clicks!

I just scroll down next to the Back button until I get to a 'Search Results'. The only trouble is, I keep doing it on other sites as well, and then stare stupidly at the drop-down menu and think 'Why have I just done this?'. biggrin.gif

What I do then is click on one of the bottom ones, and hope it pops up in the next list. It usually does.

I saw this and thought of the recent 'too many connections' issues:

Very appropriate, YAP, although a bit too late - there have been far too many trolls around here recently.
