Hello to everyone, I'm really pleased to be here. I have been a music teacher (sec. + prim. + private) for 25 years and want to play tha tuba. I have borrowed an old school euphonium + tutor book and this will be my project over the summer holidays (after doing more exercise, improving my accompanying skills, visiting mum and dad and son no.1 wink.gif )
I fancy doing an AB exam. but not sure which grade to go for 1st. I'd rather not do Grade 1 , but as I've no brass-playing experience yet, could some brass teacher advise me please? Oh, I can read bass AND treble clef almost perfectly rolleyes.gif

Thanks,
Weesofty xx

The tutor books I use for grade 1 - 3 are the abracadbra and essential elements. Start on just the mouthpiece and try to make a taa sound. On the euphonium start in open position and play an F or Bb.

Grade 1 covers the notes in a Bb Maj/G min scale. For kids it can take a couple of terms to get to a grade 1 standard. Starting out on a brass instrument does take time to build up the stamina so start with the grade 1 pieces and see how you go.

I hope I have answered your question(s)

best of luck

Andy thank you. I have no more questions for the moment and will let you know when I sit (hopefully pass too!) my first exam.
