I'm doing grade 8 viola, at some point in the not so distant future.

I'll probably be playing,

Telemann, Sonata in D (complete)
Schubert, Arpeggionne (sp? - first movement)

and I was going to do the Bartok Roumanian Folk Dances, although I am now flirting with the Vaughan Williams, Suite for Viola.

It's those scales that are putting me off!

I did the Vaughan Williams for my Grade 8 and am now learning the entire work (all 8 movements) - are you thinking of doing the Polka or the Galop?

Fab piece! Have fun. One day, if I ever have time, I might try to learn it too...

I'm not sure at the moment, I like both. I think I'll probably learn both, and then go from there.

For my G5 violin I'm studying Beethoven's Minuet in G No 2, Kreisler's Aucassin und Nicolette and Rezso Sugar's Air and Pizzicato. I,m hoping to take the exam in 2007. smile.gif

I'm doing the Brahms Sonata in F-minor first movement for Grade 8 viola. And probably the Galop from the Vaughan Williams Suite, but don't know what else yet. Scales are well annoying sad.gif mad.gif

Hey I love Aucassin and Nicolette and the Air and Pizzicato too, unfortunately my teacher hates the latter! laugh.gif But I insisted, so he had to relent! laugh.gif

I did Giga, Album Leaf and the Air and Pizzicato for my G5 three weeks ago.

Hi violin-ann, I'd like to ask did you do any vibrato for the Aucassin und Nicolette and the Air and Pizzicato? I vibrato on the last G (3 beats) before it changes to Bb in former and the vey last B in Air & Pizz.

In the Aucassin did you change to the 3rd pos when you got to the Bb part? As I can only vibrato with my first finger I have to shift to the 3rd pos to vibrato the last G so I'm already there, Although I do get a better sound in the 1st pos.

Your first piece Giga is what I started to play, it trips along nicely but I just don't have the finger dexterity for those trills. I still play it from time to time. smile.gif
