A girl i give free lessons to has just passed her grade 2 vioilin and i was wondering if she should change her violin as she is progessing, at the moment she had a purple metallic one which i think cost her about £120.00.
do you know when she should change and if yes what one should she buy next?
thanks alot for any help!
i know i posted this already in students , but it was recommened to post it here instead!

Is the present violin actually holding her up? If not then I'd suggest waiting until it is - or until she says she wants a better one.

I'd say get a new one when you think it's not good enough

My daughter also had one of these funky purple violins. She changed in time for her grade five. She would still have it, if she had not have been ready for a full size one. Her teacher was happy with tha tone she got out of it.

I think that if she's still able to play it and make a half decent sound then it shouldn't need upgrading quite yet. It's only when she wants to really start taking her playing seriously that she might want to get a new one (i doubt many orchestras etc would appriciate the purpleness).
In my opinion - Go funky violins!! I really want a purple one but no-one will let me.

What size is it? The best time to upgrade would be when she needed a new size. Depends what she's doing with her violin playing - if she's mixing with people among whom it would not be the done thing to have a purple violin, you may want to think about it. On the other hand, if she's happy with it, and it suits her, there seems little point upgrading at so early a stage in her violin playing career.
