I have no idea which conservatoires are rated higher, please help! I know a lot is based on personal preferances, at the moment I'm leaning towards Birmingham. I would love to hear from anyone who goes to or has been to any of these, especially if you're a singer! (and an alto in particular lol)

hi, Three others that I know about are the Royal Scottish Academy of music in Glasgow, the Royal Welsh college of music in Cardiff and the Royal Irish Academy of music in Dublin. Don't know what they are all like though.

hey ya...my singing teacher is both an ABRSM examiner and a teacher....as well as a soloist...she was trained in Royal Northern College of Music with the head of opera...people said it's a good place for singers....but apparently she says that Royal Academy of Music is actually a better place for singers now...the music director in my school says RAM is a good place for organists... but i generally prefer the RCM... it's just opinion...don't know if this will help...

Trinity came top this year but last year I think it was RCM... not sure though

I went to the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama. Standard there is very high and rates among the top few...you missed it off your poll!

Anyway, that's where my vote goes!

For me, I would say the best are: Royal academy, Royal college. Then, trinity and guildhall. Royal Northern is also excellent apparently.

I wouldn't say Royal Scottish or Welsh Academy/College or Music and Drama, nor the B/ham conservatoire!

Doen't matter too much, you'll make the most out of wherever you go if you are keen, but the standard of playing around you and teaching is clearly better in some smile.gif

hi there!

one of my music teachers said that the Royal Academy used to be more 'traditional' but now it is the Royal College who are more 'traditional'. Apparently the Royal Academy have a very good jazz department. all of them are very, very good. Also i think the Royal Academy is the No. 1 music college in the UK ohmy.gif wow!!
