There is an exhibition of instruments from the violin family on at St Cecilia's Hall in Edinburgh at the moment, for the next four weeks to co-incide with the Festival/Fringe; there will also be lunchtime demonstrations and/or talks from violin makers over this time. I've seen the preview of the exhibition - there are also displays showing some of the stages in construction of these instruments. The exhibition is in addition to those of the Russell and Mirrey Collections of Early Keyboard Instruments and the collection of guitars, lutes, theorboes, harps and suchlike, which are also housed at St Cecilia's.
I thought this might be of interest to any string enthusiasts who happened to be within reach of Edinburgh over the next four weeks? Entrance to the exhibitions is free. More information here.

I was just noticing that this morning and adding it to our list of things to try to get to in the Festival. (Probably as an enjoyable prelude to the task of collecting our order of next session's school books from Blackwells...)

here's something for the Suzuki parents then - the smallest instruments in the exhibition are only about 10 or 12 inches long...and have the cutest little cases to go with them, too. biggrin.gif
