In 2 days?

Can't you just work it out yourself?

I'm getting irritated this week with people who ask what level grade pieces are, when they can't just work it out from their own experience.

Sometimes I think we are too obsessed with grading stuff.
In some ways it is a personal thing.
I bet I'm not alone in finding that sometimes I can play some 'higher' grade pieces more easily than some which are considered lower.

Either you are able to learn to play it without too much trouble or you are not.

i can play both pieces but how am i supposed to 'word out' what grade they are. I dont play much classical and have never done any classical grading. I checked from grade 5-8 and none of the pieces came up.
The only reason i replied was because my thread had disappeared into the second page.
So theres no need to be nasty about it!

And if anyone does know what level these pieces are please tell me

thanks

Was not intended to be offensive... just an observation as a lot of people seem to be checking things out in this way at the moment.

Difficult to grade things, I think, without a list of what technical demands are needed at each grade.
Wonder what these are for each instrument? It would be interesting to see some sort of list wouldn't it?

The pieces you refer to are post grade 8 as they are both Concert standard repertoire. I would imagine they would be featured in the DipABRSM or possibly the LRSM performance required lit. However i can not confirm this as i have not checked the Dip Syllabus for a while. The Alhambra piece is lovely one of my favourites, alas i can not play it myself(yet!)

Hi there..

I play both of these, and place them in the Grade 8 - Dip transition phase...

Different Boards grade pieces in different ways, so try not to get too fixated on their respective standard.

RDLA may be Grade 8 for one board, and on the diploma syllabus for another.

Irrespective, they are not easy to perform in concert, but do please the audience.

If you are learning them, then enjoy the experience. You will be asked to play them for the rest of your guitar life.

I'd like to see more discussion on the guitar, esp the classical guitar. I do feel of the many classical instruments the guitar and possibly the recorder are not taken seriously enough. For example have a look at the ABRSM publishers publications for guitar, its very very sad. The trombone gets a better deal and yet i'm sure more people play guitar than trombone. Just an observation. (for what its worth!)

does anyone know any other good classical guitar pieces around this difficulty level?

Hi there..

A difficult question to answer, but I'll give it a go.

My favourites for playing are

Una Limosna..., a tremolo piece by Agustin Barrios
Etude 1, by Heitor Villa-Lobos
Prelude 2, by HVL
Choros 1, by HVL

Some of the later Etudes Esquisses, by Gerald Garcia

Fantasias by John Dowland, (P5 and P7)

Sakura Variations, by Yocoh

You can also check out the studies of Sor, Opp6 and 29(?), (not sure of the latter, as I'm typing this in the office, from memory)...

Aguado has a nice Rondo in Amin, (number 2), which has been recorded by Julian Bream. (SUPERB!!!).. not to mention Tarrga's Alard study.

Basically, check out the ABRSM syllabuses for grade8 and Dip... Lots of choice from Bach to Berkley...

For a concerto, check out the first movement of the Giuliani op 30, (in Amaj)...

Hope this gets you pointed in the right direction...
