I'm doing the old syllabus ('05-'06) for Grade 7, hoping to take the exam in Easter 2007. I've chosen the A and B pieces; Allemande (A:3) by Mozart and Esquisse (B:1) by Gliere - but am having trouble choosing the third piece. There wasn't one that leapt out at me like with the A and B sets, and the CD didn't help too much. I did like the sound of Carousel, but the glissando at the end sounds horrifically hard... and I can't really tell without looking at the score. Do you have any recommendations?

Have you tried 'For Jonny Mehegan'? It's not too hard! I had the same problem choosing a C list piece but decided to play Jonny Mehegen - it isn't the nicest piece ever but it isnt too bad wink.gif
Good luck with choosing and the exam smile.gif

You should definitely do "The little white donkey" by Ibert, it's the most fun piece to play EVER.

I did C1-For Johnny Mehegan which i didnt find hard other than the last couple of bars. It took me a lot less time to learn than it did for my other grade 7 pieces.

I did Carousel for Grade 7, the only hard bit is the middle section really. The glissando I found was not much of a problem after a little practice, It's just straight down the white keys.

I'm facing the exact problem... sad.gif
I've chosen A4 by Beethoven and B5 by Liszt.

I did like the sound of carousel also , but so afraid of that glissando...
don't know which piece to chose as well

The Ravel is lovely - it took a bit of time to grow on me but it is a lovely piece.

I did for Johnny Meghan. I did quite enjoy it but I recently heard the little white donkey and I wish I'd done that now.

I did equisse too- a lovely piece. That was my favorite one!

and I did Presto (Hassler). I loved it at first but by the time I got to my exam I hated it!

I wish now that I'd taken more thought over which pieces to choose- but I still got a merit so I can't beat myself up about it too much.....

Frankly the choice is not exciting. The White Donkey could be fun. My student was happy with the Carousel but as has been stated, the middle section is quite random.

The Ravel is to me not vintage Ravel. I don't think the basic idea had too much merit - mixing oil and water to my ear.

The Bernstein as some have said is quite short and could be put together OK. I wouldn't be taking it to my desert island though.

After the wonderful choices in Grade VI I thought this was disappointing.
