I have a question. I am seeing this x in my pieces, it has dots on the ends of the x. I've seen it before and after notes on the grand staff. What does this mean? What is the name of the x?

Thanks,

Maria

Could be a double sharp sign?

Dont really understand what you mean but it sounds like a double sharp from your description.

Does it come before the note like a sharp or flat does? If it does then i can quite easily assume that this is the sign for a double sharp. It raises the notes by a tone (2 semitones), just like a normal sharp raises the note by a semitone. If it is in a bar that seems tro be a rest then it means that you play the same thing as you played in the bar before. But the first idea i had seems more realistic. rolleyes.gif rolleyes.gif rolleyes.gif

I'd say almost deffinetely a double sharp! I can't think of anything else that looks like that and i looked it up in my old theory books but there is nothing apart from a double sharp.

I'd check with your teacher if i was you!!!! (if you have one)
