Does anyone know anything about Kirkwood piano's? What are they like as far a their quality?

Someone I know has a 30 year old upright one to go Free of Charge to anyone who can collect it.

Any piano that is free will usually turn out to be fairly poor but there are exceptions. Have a look at it, play it and test the pitch of it with a tuning fork or another instrument and if it is half decent consider asking a piano technician to take a look before going to the effort of moving the thing.

It depends partly on why they're getting shot of it I guess. I have a piano that was given to me, and although it's not amazing, it's a nice piano, and the tuner opined that it would get me through grade 8 (whether I would get IT through G8 is another matter of course...)

It was given to me by someone who had used and loved it for 20 years but was moving somewhere where she would not have the room for it. She was happy for me to have it as it saved her the trouble of selling it/moving it etc, and she knew it would be used and loved.

It's owned by a lady whose daughter played it until she left home a few years ago. It's not really been touched since then and that's why she wants to get rid of it. I think the person who is giving it away has had a couple of enquiries, but whether anyone has actually taken the piano away yet, I don't know.

I've already got a digital piano and to be honest, that's all I really need for the miniscule amount of contact I have with a keyboard.

I think that she could place it in the hands of her local auctioneers who will hold general sales on a regular basis. It will be up to the buyer than to check it out before bidding and they should arrange for it to be removed to the sale room for a modest fee.
