Is it just me or are the grade 5 "Music Theory in Practise" books written in a very different way to the grade 6 ones? I bought the grade 6 ones a while ago, planning to do the exam, and then other things ended up taking priority. I've just been having another look att them and comparing them to the lower grade ones. I know that they are written by totally different people, but I seem to find that the approach ios very different and the whole style of writing can be harder to understand. It may just be me not understanding it as I teach myself theory, but I have a fairly high level of literacy skills, and even I find it hard to comprehend what it says sometimes. Is it just me being stupid or do other people find the same problem?

The Grade 6 Music Theory in Practice has been superseded by the 'Big 6' Theory workbook. If you haven't got the Big 6 book, it's a good idea to get it as it covers the most up-to-date syllabus material. MTiP is still useful, but, as you've found, not particularly user-friendly.

I quite agree. I looked at it recently and found it very hard to understand - and I'ms upposed to know all this stuff!

It isn't just you. I have exactly the same problem.

It could be just the jump from grade 5 to grade 6.
There is quite a difference.
