Some months ago I came across a magazine called The Pianist in a newsagents near my office. I haven't seen it in any other newsagents. Its only published every two months, and is also available on subscription.
It's quite interesting, and includes some free scores from beginner to advanced, with CD if same works being played. I recommend it.

I think my piano teacher gets that sometimes.

Its a great little mag that one.

Borders sell it in most of their stores I think.

I have every copy of 'The Pianist' since it was first published, a couple of years ago. It was quite a good publication in its early days but the later issues seem to have "gone off track" a bit. This seems to be symptomatic of all new publications, not just those related to music (c.f. iCreate).

The music scores are, by and large, very good and are worth playing. I just wish they would present the sores as a 'pull out' section so that they can be separated from the rest of the magazine without "butchering" it.

Needless to say I have not renewed my subscription, but may well continue to purchase it if I spot it at my local newsagent or when on my travels.

Whoops! sores = scores. Can't just get away from my day job, but please note I'm a very proficient doctor and do not butcher people with sores wink.gif

It's OK - I subscribed for a while, but the print quality of the scores isn't very good, and I don't like the way they finger every single note (complete with several errors.....) Some nice little pieces in there though, having said that.....

There's also a magazine called Keyboard Player. It really only covers "digital pianos" not acoustic, but if anyone wants to check it out, their web site is www.keyboardplayer.com. If you ring them on 020 8241 3695 they'll send you a sample copy, which you might still have to pay for but at least you don't have to take out a full subscription without seeing it first.

Oh cool! I've never heard of that! I'll look out for it... smile.gif

Yes, I only recently came across it and have subscribed for a year. I particularly like the Step By Step section, which I use regularly with my students and also The Scores. I think its a good read.

Is it available on the web? I don't think I'll find it here... unsure.gif

There's a website. http://www.pianistmagazine.com/. It's got a lot of info about the magazine but you won't find it's contents in there.

I've seen it in WH Smith before. Thought about buying it but had no money on me. sad.gif
