Hey Everyone,
Was just wondering what you'll think of John Field's Nocturnes. I want to play Nocturne XIV in G for my LTCL.
I really like the piece.
What do you'll think?
Any suggestions are more than welcome.
Thanks a trillion,
Cheers,
Tanmoy

I love John Field, and think he doesn't get enough credit for his music, which is every bit as good as Chopin's. I have just had a quick hunt around for my book, and can't find it, so correct me if I'm wrong in this; is the Nocturne you're talking about the failrly short one, with all the arpeggiated demi-semiquavers in the left hand? If so, I'm wondering if it's hard enough for LTCL. (But I might be wrong about which one you're talking about, and I'll look for the book again later!) I played that one at a couple of small concerts, and it didn't take me too long to learn. I did no. 4 in A Major for my ALCM, and had to spend a lot longer on that. Take a look at it too; the middle section is very emotional, with a very interesting LH. It starts off as very romantically persuasive, if that makes sense, then becomes very urgent and insistent in the middle.
Have you listened to John Field's concertos? They're great! There are hints of Mozart there, but yet you couldn't say they were anything other than Romantic!
