PM voting for the Best Achievement is now open. PM me with up to 5 nominations for what you consider to be the Best Achievement. I will assume your 5 nominations are in descending order of preference, unless you state otherwise.

PM votes will close on Sunday 3rd September at 2130 BST when I (will attempt! rolleyes.gif ) to publish the poll for Category 9 and CE will open the poll for Category 10!

Happy voting! smile.gif

laugh.gif Methinks me putting up a poll for the second time will be an achievement in itself!! smile.gif

Kayla, will post some suggestions later in the week, only one person has nominated so far!

Things off the top of my head:

Non-music things - ie excellent exam results, esp Bo, Rainbow, Nicki_flute, CPPF - I am sure there are others too - thhose are the ones I remember getting great marks off the top of my head.

SuzyMac becoming a Dr, getting married, and getting a job all in very short order! Achievementitus there laugh.gif

Last year Nat won for her G8 sax in 9 months.

Other possibles: people achieving "despite" - illness, disability, financial lack.

Achieving several things in a short time period - ie benjaminja has got something ridiculous like 2 G8s and a dip in the last 12 months? is that right? It's good anyway!

Generally good achievements: eg jo.clarinet getting her clarinet dip - self taught I believe?

LadyOrchestra's 92% in her dip (ohmy.gif)

katyjay achieving her LTCL

This is far from an exhaustive list, just a few of the things I can think of off the top of my head and examples of things which could be awarded.

Sarah for becoming her nephew's favourite auntie tongue.gif tongue.gif biggrin.gif

biggrin.gif Hadn't considered that as an achievement on my part (though was for his poor mum!!!) but yeah, I guess that counts!!
violin-ann
From last year, I remember oboebunny being laughed at by her recorder teacher and classmates for being physically handicapped and probably not worth much in playing the recorder, but she overcame that and went on to even learn the violin later on. smile.gif Plus also going far in her oboe. Don't ask me what level she's at though on those instruments... the details elude me somewhat.

Oh let's not forget our great Grade One challenge results! biggrin.gif

Katyjay with a distinction in Grade one violin and noodle with a merit for cello (Grade 5) and distinction for Grade one sax and both having to juggle that in between teaching as well!
sbhoa

Isn't there the technicality of her no longer being a forum member?
violin-ann
She won't be able to even say thanks if she won.

APYAP for getting engaged... don't know if this counts as an achievement though. I suppose it does! biggrin.gif

Three grade 8s and a dip, actually... rolleyes.gif (I'd like to do G8 Viola in the autumn too but don't think I'll have time sad.gif)

Yay, my first proper nomination! tongue.gif

I don't really think I deserve being nominated for my results - several other people got just as good or better smile.gif This happened last year with me too, and whilst I am honoured, there are more deserving people out there!

Ann: yep, oboebunny IMO deserves a mention smile.gif

How about this for an achievement - an unconditional offer from Cambridge, stunning A-level grades, and during your first year having one of your compositions broadcast on national radio? Step forward our very own cheeble.
nicki_flute
Ah, yes, how could we forget. I recorded it at the time and it is still on my mp3 player biggrin.gif

I have sent you a PM although I believe everyone deserves an award or something for achieving whatever they have despite whatever challenges they have faced.

And the parenthood thing is also a good achievement... hmm... this is going to be hard!

I am at a loss too! Is there someone on the forum named Everyone??? How shall we award everyone? laugh.gif

Oh dear... although I can think of a few less-noticed people on the forums.

*Still pondering question.*
asgirl
OK, since you are pondering why the vote for everyone!

I was the person who nominated everyone, and if you read back through the past posts, you will see a post by me which basically lists my reason for nominating everyone! Hope this clears things up!
violin-ann
Hee hee! Ok thanks for the vote, kayla! True many people have achievements on this forum. And one can't begin to compare achievements when it comes to life achievements. Everyone is so good at their own thing, it's hard not to vote for everyone. smile.gif
violin-ann
Oh look, Morgan's Munchkin can be nominated for best achievement too!

QUOTE
(Morgan's Munchkin @ Jul 27 2006, 11:00 PM)

I have no support from my parents where music is concerned. I have to buy all my own instruments, pay for my exams, books etc. My parents never encourage me to play. My father refuses to let me practice at his, and my mother often asks me to 'turn it down' (since when has a flute or violin had a volume switch?). My mum refused to let me take music A level so i had to change the form after she'd signed it, she went mad when she found out but it was too late. I did get a muttered 'well done' when i got a merit in my grade 3 flute (having only been playing 6 months). The best part was when i started my flute lessons though. I had shoved some money into mums hand (about £150), borrowed her credit card, brought a flute, had the flute delievered, found a flute teacher, booked lessons, worked out train times to get to lessons etc. The day of the first lesson i said to mum 'so you're picking me up from town at 6pm?' she asked what i was doing in town. I told her i had a flute leson. The reply was 'Since when have you played the flute?'

Wow...

She (or he??) has achieved Grade A GCSE music (going onto AS),
approx Grade 4/5 violin (done up to grade 2 exams),
Grade 3 flute with Merit (now about grade 4/5),
approx Grade 3 Theory and is now attempting to teach himself/herself treble recorder!!!
jo.clarinet
I'd like to nominate everyone too - we all have our own achievements, great and small, and it's very hard (and not really fair, either!) to compare one person's achievement with another, and to rate one as somehow 'better' than another! I'll send a PM to confirm the nomination, in case posting here doesn't count! smile.gif

and I think I mentioned CPPF's exceptional GCSE results already, but also Rainbow deserves a mention for achieving straight A*s despite being ill.
