Hi Missmusic

The great thing about music is that it's something you will be able to enjoy for the whole of your life - and you can fit your enjoyment of music around any other career - often as a means of relaxation to help keep your life in balance. Most orchestras and choirs seem to rehearse at evenings and weekends, so it's something you can do after work.

I certainly find that to be the case - I've been a Chartered Accountant for 10 years, and find that singing (whether practising, taking lessons or in a choir) in my spare time is the main thing that keeps me sane! And in this last year I've (at the grand old age of 36) started having singing lessons for the first time ever - and to my great delight I passed Grade 5 with distinction a couple of weeks ago.

I think what I'm trying to say is that you CAN enjoy both music and another career, if you are prepared to put the time in.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Hope it helps!

Although you play a number of instruments, to be accepted into a music college and to perform professionally you need to be a minimum of Grade 8 standard. Even with this, the profession still demands an emormous amount of hard work, self-discipline and hours of practice.
But this does not mean you cannot still enjoy playing music on your instruments - like many people, it may be your hobby/pasttime rather than a full-blown serious career. There are so many things you can become involved in - lots of amateur ensembles can provide a wonderful way to meet new people.

I know exactly how u feel coz i love music, i'm in an orchestra, in a choir, i have piano and violin lesson, AND i run a little choir of my own - and i absolutely love it because i enjoy it so much. biggrin.gif

When i'm older i would love to still be quite involved in music, but, personally, i dont think that it's necessary to have music as your main career to do that. U can still be in a choir or an orchestra, or even run something of your own in the evenings or at the weekends, while being involved in a completely different career full time. smile.gif
